Free upgrade for recent buyers?

Post by paintjam »

I bought VS Pro X2, 2 or 3 weeks ago. It is the Dutch version, cause that is the only version that I could buy through the store - they see that the IP is from the Netherlands and think that I do not understand English...
All the software that I use is English.

Normally, when a software program is to be upgraded so soon, the software company offers free upgrades to the last buyers ( to get rid of the last stock).

Anyone else here who knows how to get (legally) an English version for Dutch people?
Or a direct email address from Corel tho point out this issue?

The Dutch manual is very summier! And the forum here is English too, it would be nice to not have to try to translate the buttons and menus when I am asking questions here!!!

Love to hear from you!

I got the same problem. I prefer English versions because I'm used to it. Now having the Dutch language version I have to stir around to find what I'm looking for.

I understand that they WANT to sell the Dutch version cause the translation (software and printed manuals) cost a lot of money. But I still feel that there should be a choice for the customer. Especially since there is hardly no Dutch support!

And the fact that I bought X2, 2 or 3 weeks ago while they know that X3 was ready to be marketed is - sorry to see so - very rude and just not to be done!

So maybe there is a way to contact a Corel person who can help us out?

I guess that's a case of bad luck. Corel knew this for a longer time as is alwyas the case while developing new versions. I think they have to draw the line up to the point where the new version is actually available. Otherwise, how should they handle new customers buying an "old" version? The ones that bought it one, two, three, four weeks ago?

I know other software makers offer a free upgrade if you buy the 'old version' while they know that within 6 months or less, the new software comes out.
For instance: E-on software (3D software: Vue Esprite), DAZ with Bryce. Even Microsoft, or their dealers anyway, sold the old Vista system with promise for a free upgrade to Windows 7. OK, these are the big boys, but not E-on nor DAZ.

Seems to me that it boils down to the 'company policy'. Is the priority to keep (bind) customers, you offer a free upgrade. If the priority is to make money, you don't.

Please let's be clear, I do understand that companies have a hard time. Translations costs a lot of money. But there needs to be a balance. Cause before I am going to spend any more money on video software, I will look into other software first...

I get your point. Now what if a customer buys it 6 months and ONE day before? That customer will also be unsatisfied.

I hope for you Corel responds positive to your request.

Kind regards,

Yeah, that will always be a problem. But a company can be very nice and inform the buyer that it is better for him to wait a week....
That would be a very, very nice company :D

Return for refund if within 30 days and tell them why you aren't satisfied. You can log onto the internet using a proxy server with a USA ip without too much trouble to defeat this silly limitation or you can fire Corel. Not too much else to do "legally" IMO. Or you can just steal the software if buying it becomes too much of a drain on your time and energy, thus making it "too expensive". I would have opted for this if I was in your shoes long before I would agree to buy a program in a language I don't prefer simply because they say so. That's just me though.
