Where is the "I am not a Dummy" buttons?

Post by zforray »

I just bought the upgrade to VSX3 and so far I am not amused!

Where is the button that says "I am not a dummy - I am advanced - Let me change settings and do things the way I was able to with X2/DVDMF6".

My gripes/issues so far:

1. What genius forced the "scan your whole computer for every imaginable media" when launching DVDMF? I have hundreds of thousands of pictures on my machine and DO NOT want any of them included. If I want a video or image made available for processing, I will select it when I want to.

And then, there doesn't seem to be a button that says "remove from your list of media". If I delete something, it wants to completely, truly delete it.

2. Where did all the menu templates go? I wanted a simple, multi-button/chapter menu. No transitions, no soundtrack.......

3. Speaking of soundtrack, why can't I delete it from the menu? It says you can't delete it because it is in use? I didn't have this problem with DVDMF6.

4. What happened to "Burn to ISO"? I finally figured out from the cutesy sliding menus how to burn to DVD folders. I have had too many DVD burner compatibilities issues with DVDMF so I always created an ISO and then used a true DVD burning program or gave someone the ISO.

5. Project locations? What black-hole does it drop my project into? Never asks. Did Corel go to a M$ sponsored mind-control seminar ("users don't want to be bothered with knowing where everything goes - just do it for them - it is better if we are in control"). I have terabytes of pictures, videos, media scattered over 5-internal drives in multiple partitions. I want to manage placement of files.

This is just a start. I have only been using it for 3-hours and am already exasperated.

Thanks. I had noticed some of those complaints in other messages. I had not dug through that one.

When they first came out with recent, dumbed-down products, I was wondering if they were heading in that direction.

Do they honestly think that most folks are so dumb they need very simple programs and don't want to have advanced features......um...answered my own question by thinking about most M$ products.

This reminds me of a similar incident I went through with Symantec. I have used pcAnywhere way before Symantec bought it. I remember them releasing V8. They did the same stupid thing. One feature I used all-the-time was suddenly removed. It was a simple feature (allowed for selecting files to transfer by using wild-card selects/patterns).

I contacted someone at Symantec and they said "we surveyed folks and found that very few people were using that feature - use the standard Windows explorer like process to manually scroll down the list of files, using ctrl-click to select". Basically, they wanted to be lazy and use standard Windows file selection. If you wanted to select 50-files with varying extensions, scattered through a list of 500-files, it would now take forever. If you accidentally miss-clicked your mouse, all your selections went away and you had to start again.

Well, when V9 came out, not only did they put back the feature that "nobody used" but they made it better. Obviously, they did not do a very good job of "surveying" folks on who used what features (obviously did not ask me).

Sounds like what is going on, here. The product has only been available for 1-2 weeks and the complaints are climbing!
