However, after the purchase a screen popped up with my new serial # (also got an email from Corel with the same info) but when I tried to enter it, it told me it was invalid....
If you have downloaded a TBYB version you enter an activation number.
If you downloaded an ESD version you enter a serial number.

Which?

I followed their instructions. Nothing. But when my trial version expired I uninstalled it then reinstalled the downloaded version and it's working.

So far...

I wrote to Corel three days ago, and they still haven't responded, though.

The Plain version VideoStudio X2
The one sold in the US and Canada VS Pro X2
The one sold in the UK and elsewhere VS Ultimate X2

However they dropped the plain VS X2, and just continued offering the Pro and Ultimate in their respective regions.

If you're connecting to Corel's website from an old email, or from an old bookmarked, downloaded web page, it is more than likely out of date, and no longer applicable. Corel changes their marketing strategies, (sales) every nth number of days, something like 60 or 90. They'll send out email notices of these sales, however they are always time limited.

If you want to purchase X2, you can try phoning Corel and begging for it (good luck), try purchasing it from whatever web page you claim to be viewing it from, or use Ebay, Amazon, or whatever third-party venue.

I'm just telling you that Corel no longer offers VS X2 period end of story!!
Since they no longer offer X2 do you suppose they would mind me posting my serial number here to save brain champagne a headache of dealing with them to fix his issue?

Sorry but that is a big NO NO.
In addition owning a prior version entitles a purchaser to a reduction in price
because they buy the cheaper upgrade version ($69.99) rather than the more expensive full version ($99.99)

I have a serial # as I paid for it, it just didn't work when I put it into the downloaded trial software. I erased that and installed the one I paid for, and it works.

I just tried x3, after having x2, and ulead 11, and there is one more version I am forgetting...and then I realized, it has only been 2.5 years going through four different things.

The things fixed in x3 are trivial. I am staying x2, and I am upset...what is up with the upgrade price for long time users? oh my freakin word.

Even if I saw it at 30 bucks, the fixes for copying made easier is not worth it..but no, they want 70 more us dollars...no more. And it is hardware decoding in x2, and did with version 11..why a checkbox now?

and another thing...640x480 templates are missing. I make my own because of the 854x480 (ya know that one? it has been with mpeg2 for 40 years now), it does not bother me, but it may bother some. there are many sites that use 2mbit 640x480...the you tube stuff at 320-240 is nearly unwatchable on my local pc...what the net does with it is even more grotesque. that is long gone outdated....

you got x2 and have not tried x3? do not waste the bandwidth. stay where you are...

I would disagree. As far as the changes and enhancements, some view them as critical while others view them as trivial. Depends on what you are using it for. 640x480 templates I would call trivial, because I don't use them. Let people make up there own minds. You can always trial it for 30 days before purchasing.

I second that motion. The more I use X3 the more little things I notice improved. Even little behind the scenes things like the speed at which a big project loads. Lightning compared to any previous version. The smartsounds enhancement is very cool for those of us who use them often. I'm pretty sure I haven't found it all yet but for my 69 bucks to upgrade I'm pretty happy so far. Can't even have a decent dinner out for two for that money around here, and it just heads down the toilet and into your arteries within an hour or so.

Geez, some people's kids!!
