X2 vs. X3 vs. Pro?

Post by Brain Champagne »

I am about to run out of my 30 day trial of X2.

I see on Corel's website a page selling X2 for $29.99. I also see another page selling X2Pro for $39.99. Is this the same product or is there a difference? Corel's website, in its list of products, doesn't list either since they now show only X3 (the other page where I found X2 is something I'd bookmarked before X3 came out).

I don't think I need any of the new features in X3, not when I can upgrade later for the same as the difference in price.

I don't think you're going to be able to purchase X2 from Corel now. Once they release a new version, the older one is no longer offered. If you're wanting X2, you will need to purchase it from another source.

Where are you located? Here in the US, in the UK, and I believe most of Corel's market, VS X2, X2 Pro, X2 Ultimate is no longer available. The web site that I see, no longer as them. You may need to clear your browser's cache, and look again.

I've just checked half a dozen Corel locations and none offer VS x2. It is still possible in the UK to buy a boxed version of x2 Pro but I can't find the VS x2 vanilla version anywhere. I think I recall that it has a number of restrictions anyway. A bookmark saved when x2 was on the Corel site will not necessarily take you to where you can purchase it. Try opening the bookmark and refreshing your screen!
I'm with Accolades on this one!
But if you insist then there is a choice on USA Ebay. Big difference between price of X2 and X2 Pro

But if he wants the plain X2 version it is only $24 on Ebay, boxed and free shipping. You get a printed manual too! Plus I think this members name is Eli Shaun

I just checked. My trial version is X2 Pro.

What are the main differences between regular X2 and X2 Pro?

Corel's website has a zillion pages and it wouldn't surprise me if you can find five year old software for sale somewhere if you know where to look. While they may not be able to ship a box, allowing downloads is pretty automated, they may not even know it got sold!

I just added X2 Pro to my Shopping Cart (for download); it's $39.99 (that's USD). There doesn't seem to be any disadvantage in buying regular X2 for $29.99 because I can upgrade to X3 for the same total price as having bought X3 in the first place... but a hundred bucks is kind of steep for software I rarely use.

Hi Brain

There is not a regular X2, there is a Pro and Ultimate
The main difference between the Pro and Ultimate is the Bonus software supplied, more with the Ultimate.

The actual program as far as I know is the same.

There is two ways to purchase, one for the full version, will install and run as a complete package.

The upgrade, requires the user to have a previously registered version, so as to provide its serial number as proof. This is usually a little cheaper to purchase, but the program is identical.

I suppose its like giving existing users a good will gesture, a little saving, but you do need the serial numbers of your previous versions.

If you have already purchased then theres no problem.
Good luck

Their website says simply Corel VideoStudio X2 and the photo of the box doesn't say Pro or Ultimate. Was there ever an X2 for $29.99 that was a downgraded version?

I think it was a truncated version referred sometimes as the vanilla version. whatever that may mean :?:

For a short time Corel did offer 3 versions of VS X2...
The Plain version VideoStudio X2
The one sold in the US and Canada VS Pro X2
The one sold in the UK and elsewhere VS Ultimate X2

However they dropped the plain VS X2, and just continued offering the Pro and Ultimate in their respective regions.

If you're connecting to Corel's website from an old email, or from an old bookmarked, downloaded web page, it is more than likely out of date, and no longer applicable. Corel changes their marketing strategies, (sales) every nth number of days, something like 60 or 90. They'll send out email notices of these sales, however they are always time limited.

If you want to purchase X2, you can try phoning Corel and begging for it (good luck), try purchasing it from whatever web page you claim to be viewing it from, or use Ebay, Amazon, or whatever third-party venue.

I'm just telling you that Corel no longer offers VS X2 period end of story!!

Well, evidence like my download and the charge on my credit card would seem to indicate otherwise.

However, after the purchase a screen popped up with my new serial # (also got an email from Corel with the same info) but when I tried to enter it, it told me it was invalid...

Awaiting a reply from Corel to figure this out.
