SOLVED: VSX3 Problems with transitions (blips) still there

The transitions blips do indeed seem to be gone, as reported by one of the mods who was a beta tester. Yea!
My findings were the blips were still there coming out of a transition just hidden by the decoder better.
I'm just testing X3 (trial) and can't get all transitions as smooth at they should be. Some are OK but at least some are still jerky and full of glitches.

For testing I took two new clips (from my Sony HDR-SR12E), cut both - the first one at the end and the second one at the begin - and inserted a transition (crossfade or fade to black) and rendered it into a file (AVCHD PAL HD - 1920; that's the same format as the source; with Smartrender on and off) and got in any case a jerky transition. It seems to jump back some frames (as used in X2, but a little bit smoother). In addition some strange artefacts (blocks) appear after the transition. The effect shows not only on the PC (e.g. with Corel's WinDVD 9 Plus) but also when decoding on a Mediabox (TVix). So it should not be the fault of the decoder.

Any idea what else could I try to get rid of the transition problems in VX3?
(I still have some days left to test the trial)

Solution based on the hints from teleoma and philip_l to be found in this thread.

The first line of your quote is from one of my posts and although I did say the blips were gone with X3, I was wrong. Shortly after posting that, I tried a project using another set of clips and got the frame jump-back transition blip on at the end of a transition after one clip in the project.

I also saw light pixelization or blockiness at the beginning and end of every transition. This has occurred in every X3 AVCHD project that I have tried so far that contains transitions.

In case you haven't already read it, there is another recent forum topic that you may find of interest regarding various user's blip X2/X3 experiences. It is named "Drop outs with Ulead AVCHD Codec".

Mso
Have you downloaded and installed the latest Directx from the thread at the top of this Forum?

Was Smart Proxy on or off?

It seems that if there are smart proxy files associated with the source clips, then glitches occur in transitions. After turning off Smart Proxy and deleting the proxy files, then there weren't any glitches.

@dalemccl:
The simple reason for quoting you was, that I realy hoped that someone has overcome the problems with the transitions in X3. Sorry to hear that you also find the problem still to be here. Anyway, thanks for your reference to the thread, I've carefully read.

@mitchell65:
In order to make sure I've the latest Directx, I downloaded and installed yesterday the linked update (dated 5.2.2010), but unfortunately without solving the problem.

@Kingston:
I never used smart proxy.

Today I continued to experiment with my testproject and found that turning off smartrender at least reduces the destructions during the transition significantly. But on the other hand it also reduces the bitrate (to app. 14/15 Mbps). And the quality of the transition largely depends on the decoder: e.g. viewing in VS X3 itself shows only very view glitches, but Corel WinDVD 9 Plus crashed when viewing the same file at the start of the transition (and there's no testversion of WinDVD 2010 available to test with).

It's a pity.

I've found exactly this with X3. While there are improvements with blips and stutters across transitions, the resulting AVCHD file after a smart render is damaged in some way or other and you are at the mercy of how the decoder copes with that damaged file!

Hi all,
I was doing some research on this and come across this thread. I am rendering a finished project into DVD format and I am getting the jump after every transition. The difference is that the format I am using is MPEG2 however; it was AVCHD but I had to convert it first, as I had so many problems with this format in x2.

This is really annoying as on another finished video it is ok and not jumping so I can¡¦t work out what the difference is, as they both come from the same source. I upgraded to x3 after using the trial as it seemed to improve editing of AVCHD compared to x2 but since I purchased it keeps crashing at about 80% and now I ma getting these annoying frame jumps.
