PSPX2 - long

Post by trueblue »

I've been running PSPX2 for more than a year now and found it to be ok, although it did shut down occasionally.

However, the problem started becoming more serious in that each time I shut down PSPX2 it would shut down my PC - blue screen, dump.

I removed PSPX2 not once, but three times, did a reformat and reinstalled PSPX2. At the time of this clean reinstall I did not have my AVG9 installed and low and behold, PSPX2 did not shut down.

I've been in consultation with Corel and now AVG, the latter I'm waiting a response.

I cannot run my PC without and antivirus, so, as I run Comodo firewall, which also has an antivirus, I decided to activate it.

Once again, I close PSPX2 and it shuts down my PC.

I have received advice from Corel tech. all to no avail.

The last email I sent I told him that I'd reformatted my PC.
He replied................. I should try reformatting my pc and gave me advice to contact my PC vendor on how to do this?

Do these technicians really read email? I guess not.

All he has suggested I have done and nothing makes any difference.

I'm open to suggestions (no rude ones though) on what to do next.

MS error suggests I uninstall and restore to a prior date. But I only reformatted the other day.........and PSPX2 was shutting down then.

I cannot be without antivirus or a firewall. So please, can I have help before I go insane with this product.

What I'd like to know is, did PSPX2 have Protexis in it when it was first released or did it come in an update?
If so, this is what could be causing the problem. Who knows!

If you need to use AVG you can add Paint shop Pro (and its associated files dll's etc) as exceptions to the files it analyses.

I also run AVG-9 and have both PSPP X2 & X3 installed. So far I've not had any issues with it causing them to crash or shutdown. I've not had to exclude any files.

Highly unlikely. It's just a fairly innocuous DRM thing... about which there has been some poorly informed scaremongering.
Protexis licensing, in some form or other, has been a component of Corel programs for at least four years, including the last couple of versions of Painter. So you probably had it on your computer before installing PSPP X2.

Like Tim stated Protexis has been a component of some of Corel's programs for the last several years. It is a harmless utility they use to thwart piracy. It must be running in order for the program to launch. If you stop the Protexis service, PSPP, Corel Draw, Painter, and now VS, will not launch. You will see this error if Protexis is prevented/stopped from running:
PSPP:

VideoStudio:

CorelDraw:

Corel Painter:

If you encounter one of the above errors, and you have a legitimate copy of the program, there is no need to re-install the program. Nothing has been corrupted. You just need to re-start Protexis Licensing Service in the Computer Management Console.

Protexis Licensing Service can be disabled, stopped and started in the Computer Management Console. I've on occasion set it to run manually, and then when I needed to run one of the programs that depend on it, just go in and start it..

You'll get the dialog (screenshot above) by right-clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop, and selecting Manage. Then in the left pane look for Services and Applications, expand it, select Services. Now scroll down in the right pane and look for Protexis Licensing.
