2 Bugs In X3
2 bugs I have found in PSP X3 so far that affect my workflow:
1) EXIF information does not survive a Save in the editor.
In the Organizer, I can see the full camera EXIF info of the un-edited file (under "Advanced Info / EXIF) but NOT in the EXIF tab of the "Image Information" dialog in the full editor.
Apparently, since the editor is not seeing this info, it disappears from the file after a Save or Save As.
I have tried saving as both uncompressed .tif and .jpg with the same loss of the EXIF information.
All was well in X2, which I will be forced to continue to use until this is fixed!
2) I use the "Tabbed Documents" feature in the Window menu of the editor.
When switching to the Organizer and back to the Editor, "Tabbed Documents" gets un-checked every time.

That is very worrying. I can confirm that on my computer the same thing happens.
I found a file on my hard drive with EXIF information.
I opened that file with Paint Shop Pro X3 and immediately used "Save As"
and placed a copy on my desktop.
I opened that same original file again with Photoimpact X3 and immediately used "Save As" and placed a second copy on my desktop.
The copy from paint shop Pro had no EXIF information
The copy from Photoimpact did.
I have also passed these findings on to Corel.

It's been...what less than a month? With problems as extensive as people have been reporting. Something tells me that it's going to be a while before an update is available. At least I hope it will be. Last thing I want is an update that's pushed out too quickly. Would make me think they didn't spend too much time making good efficient fixes to their code.
The EXIF problem is serious enough to get that fixed quickly. I'll have to move on to something else if a fix is not ready soon.LeviFiction wrote:It's been...what less than a month? I readily admit that since I don't care about the EXIF information. I don't use it for anything and I'm not worried about theft of my work...not that EXIF information will prevent that at all unless the thief doesn't know anything about EXIF. So I'm not as in a hurry for them to fix that one thing specifically as you are.
With what little I know most companies tend to wait until they have fixed multiple problems before releasing a patch. And EXIF is just one of many problems that have turned up in X3. Some of them relating to the program actually being able to run at all. So...I would imagine that they see the need to provide a single update for EXIF alone as less important than you do. But that is just an assumption.

Just to point out a few reasons to retain Exif:
Some plugins, like PT Lens, use the Exif data itself and can't really work well without it.
Some groups on social sites, like Flickr, require that you retain the Exif to add photos to a group to verify data. For example a Nikon group won't want Canon or Pentax cameras images in their pools.
Sometimes you'll get asked "when was that taken" and it would be very handy to have that tagged within the image itself.
If you have problem images and are trying to figure out what went wrong exif is useful.
~~~~~~~~~
Maybe Corel could release a Plug-in that retains Exif during the save process? Not an update but would work until an official patch were released. Just an idea if Corel is watching.
Please note that this is not yet an official release, it was sent to me for testing but did cure the EXIF issue. It should be released in the next Patch.
I suggest that anyone who wants to use this fix firstly makes a back up of the existing file
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\CoreImageFormats.dll
and then you can download and replace it with the one from my skydrive online storage account.
http://cid-7b0b9c5b899c50fa.skydrive.li ... xiffix.zip
Usual warning about you do this at your own peril etc. but like I said, I tested it and it works.
