VSX3 Memory Hog!!

Post by Accolades »

Still having issues with Corel getting it ACTIVATED/registered but....

Noticed it grabs 8 - 8.5GB of my 12 GB of RAM when in use and refuses to let it go when I quit the program!!

I assume most people wont have this problem but.....

Just something else to have a winge about...

Generating a You Tube Video uses about 20 - 30%CPU

Perhaps you need to install a bit more RAM

Seriously though, the Activation thing is a bit misleading.
When you first install a Corel Program - (They all work this way now)
you are given a SERIAL NUMBER.
You get a screen appear asking you to "Register/Activate" the product.
The Serial number is entered in the top box of that screen.
Leave the other box (Lower right) that asks for an activation number blank.

What happens next is that you are asked if you want to save the "Activation Details" to a text file. YES you do need to do this. This text file will now contain

1. The Serial number you originally entered above.
2. An Activation number. You will not have seen this number previously.

At this time, other than saving that text file in a safe place - with your downloaded installation file(s) is a good place
You do not do anything else with it.

The purpose of this is so that if at some time in the future you re-install the software - perhaps you reformatted your hard drive and re-installed windows. This time when you install the software you DO NOT enter the SERIAL NUMBER in the box at the top of the screen, instead you enter the ACTIVATION NUMBER in the box at the lower right of the screen.

:D

Never had option to save or know activation number but X3 Starts ok...

I even have the option of downloading extra content now ....

X3 Title pack? Installed...
X3 Fontpack 1 - 15 extra fonts!! Installed...
X3 Fontpack 2 - 15 extra fonts!! Installed....
X3 Fontpack 3 - 16 extra fonts!! Installed...
X3 Fontpack 4 - 16 extra fonts!! Installed...
X3 Title Pack Six - 10 new COOL animated Titles ... Installed
X3 Style Pack Two Home Movie Templates... Installed...

X3 Registration Bonus Pack Template pack contains a set of movie styles, disc labels and menus, plus one new bonus font "PosterBodoni WGL4 BT"! Installed...

Dunno what the story witht he memory is....

Thought 12GB of DDR3 1600 was enough ... oh and 2GB of VRAM on GTX 395 card I guess...

Dunno why it won't let the mem go but.. tried a few memory flush tricks but still remained at ~8gb used...

Regarding the Activation Issue.
There are two versions of VideoStudio X3.

There is the Try Before You Buy Version. You install this without a serial number/activation number and it works for up to 30 days.
You can alter activate that by entering the supplied "Serial Number"
(See my earlier post in this thread) which in turn generates an activation number which can be used at some future date if you have to re-install it.

There is the ESD version - you decide from the outset to purchase the program and so download a full version.
With this one you must enter your serial number when you install the program. This version does not "Phone Home" and it does not generate an activation number. If you re-install you use the same original serial number.
