Newbie Qu's: Basic Editing and Timecodes

Post by michaeld121 »

I¡¦m new to eding in VideoStudio X2 & stuggling slightly. A couple of questions:

i) Can anyone recommend a good tutorial (rather than a preview) covering basic editing, ie using the timeline, cutting, inserting clips, moving clips around etc etc. I¡¦ve had a good look round & watched a few on YouTube, but haven¡¦t yet found anything covering this. Don¡¦t mind if it¡¦s a video or more text based.

ii) Timecodes: I¡¦m editing a year¡¦s worth of family video. I don¡¦t want timecodes on the finished version, but want to know the date a clip was filmed when I'm editing (so I can put titles in). In the past I¡¦ve used WMM which had the timecodes when editing but somehow dropped them in the finished DVD. I¡¦ve had a look at the manual and a few previous posts, but I¡¦m not sure what my best strategy is here.

Many thanks,

Michael

Please see the following tutorial: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13421

File>Preferences>General Tab>Display DV Timecode on Preview Window

Many thanks.

On the timecodes: I'd found previous posts about that parameter, but wasn't clear whether it would show up on the final version. Obviously I wanted to avoid going through all of the capture & editing just to find I'd got something wrong right at the start.

I hadn't found that tutorial about editing. I'll have a good look through it. I've been getting stuck on the way that the overlay tracks work with the video track, hopefully this will clarify it.

Thanks,

Michael

With dv the timecode is written to another part of the tape than the video, so it won't show up on the finished video.
