DVD Factory 2010 crashing on burn

Post by Natal »

I have been using VS12 and was reasonably happy with it other than a few glitches. The release of X3 was pretty exciting, but I decided to try the trial before I bought it (good decision!).

The main problem I'm having with X3 is that the editing part works OK, but whenever I try to produce an AVCHD disk, the authoring tool crashes. The set up part works fine (allthough super slug-like in performance) but when I try to do the burn it pops up a message that DVD factory has stopped working and the program closes.

Usually this takes some time if I try to make a disk directly from X3, I can start the burn and it shows progress, but after an hour or so and at ~20% the program stops working. If I try producing the disc directly from factory (using the splash screen start option) the program stops working as soon as I start the burn (well, about 30 seconds later) part. I've been trying for a week now, and have yet to produce a single disc.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this piece of junk working?

One other observation, when producing AVCHD files the program seems to default to 16 Mbs no matter what. Some of my source files are off my video camera at 24 Mbs, others are from the web at 3-8 Mbs, but no matter what clips I make, they allways come out at 16Mbs. V12 didnt do this, a 8 Mbs clip came out at about 8Mbs, X3 turns it into a 16 Mbs clip. Very annoying since it reduces the capacity of my discs from 1 hour of footage to about 30 minutes.

Since you're working with AVCHD I'll let Ken provide any help with those. He has tried to author with AVCHD using DVDF 2010.

I'll just say that the authoring program is less than desirable. Corel is fully aware of this, and is working on fixing things. How and what, we must wait and see.

I am very impressed with VS X3 Pro the editor. If a person has a different DVD authoring application they should have no problems getting their videos to disc.

Please, make your feelings known to Corel. Contact technical support or customer service and express your concerns. They need to know your dissatisfaction.

I'm afraid I can't be of much help on this. I have not actually burned an AVCHD hybrid disk with X3 as yet. I have, however, successfully produced a couple of AVCHD Folders (i.e. exactly the same BDMV folder as appears on an actual DVD) whose quality is excellent. But in neither case did I insert a disc...

I have been authorised by Corel to inform our Web Board Members that Corel are aware of the problems and feelings towards the new Authoring Stage. Discussions have taken place involving Corel, Ron, Ken and myself and a solution is being worked on.

Please hang in there while Corel try and resolve this issue. Rather than a quick overnight fix that turns nasty, it is better that Corel spend a little time getting this solution right.

I cannot go into details at the moment because a number of alternatives are being considered and I would not wish to mislead or confuse our members.

This is excellent news. I look forward to hearing more on this, might even upgrade to x3 afterall. I'll email Corel and say the same to them. :D

I tried burning to an AVCHD folder as suggested, but Factory crashed doing that as well. I have also tried installing the trial on my older computer (which doesnt have a burner), and that one could create an AVCHD folder successfully.

Btw, how do you get that onto a disc functionally? I tried burning the files to a disc and that didnt work, even though it appeared to have the same structure as an AVCHD disc. The only difference as far as I could tell was that the AVCHD disc autoplayed, whereas the burned copy did not - is there something else I need to do?

The differences in my computers:

My main computer is a Dell XPS 710, with an E6600 processor and 4 GB RAM, running the 32 bit version of Windows 7. The computer originally had XP installed, and it was upgraded to Win7 when that was released.

The old computer is a Dell XPS Gen2 with a Pentium4 processor and 2 GB of RAM running XP.

I'm not sure why Factory works on the old XP system but not on the newer computer running Win7. I had considered that it might be a security conflict (I had seen this with a single old program that wouldn't run when installed in the program directory, but works fine when installed in another direcory), but installing it in a user directory didn't solve the problem.

Since no one else has mentioned a similar issue, is it possible that there is something about my system setup that might be causing this problem perhaps?

Another update, I managed to get Factory to burn a regular DVD successfully on my main computer, so the problem seems to be limited to AVCHD burns. Heh...this feels like beta testing.

I have been having the same problem and I also get the error message
"Older graphics hardware or drivers have been detected on your system. You will not be able to play or edit video in Corel DVD Factory. Please update your hardware or drivers to a version that supports DirectX 7.0 or higher."
each time I go into the DVD Factory 2010 to burn a DVD. I am able to burn regular DVD's and am able to watch the videos on DVD factory. The second issue I am having is when I try to burn an AVCHD video to a DVD. Once I click 'Burn' the app crashes. Upon reading the 'view details' I see that nvcuda.dll is involved in the appcrash. I just purchased a new HD camcorder and am hoping that I would be able to burn some hd videos. I can seem to burn AVCHD files which saves as an *.mpg and it seems to play on my Samsung HD TV and Bluray player with the use of the USB port. I have had the app crash occasionally when trying to burn an AVCHD file. Any help would be appreciated.

The above posts are now more than 2 years old. DVD Factory 2010 was a complete disaster both for the users who tried it out, and for Corel. The latter to their credit recognised the uselessness of the program and made a special edition (SE) of Movie Factory 7 available free for registered users of X3 to substitute for DVD Factory 2010. There is a whole separate sub-forum on MF 7 SE, so I would advise you to look through that, download and install MF 7 SE (it comes with SP 2 to X3), and just forget about DVD Factory 2010.

Thank you very much. It was very helpful. Contemplating upgrading to Pro X4.
