VS X3 Pro - Create a DVD WITHOUT A MENU and NO MUSIC

Post by dab035 »

I have been an X2 Pro user for 1 year, doing a weekly church DVD Video for the homebound. I am trying VS X3 Pro as a possible upgrade. I am still learning X2......

I have tried to create a DVD Video on X3 WITHOUT A MENUE and WITHOUT MUSIC.
Has anyone figured out if this is possible?

Why would I want to pay money for X3 and have to then use X2 to produce my DVD disk?? X3 did seem to open my old X2 .VSP file with no problems.

So far X3 Pro seems slower and I have crashed it 2 times.

In case anyone from COREL is listing, I can not see any reason to upgrade at this time. I guess they are intending this product towards social networking video users who don't want many user options.

Unfortunately you can't turn the menu option off in X3's rubbish authoring section as this question to Corel shows:
My Question: Can I turn off the menu option so that I go straight to Burn?
Corel's reply (Rec'd within 4 hours V.G.)
Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support Services.
Your wanted feature is not possible in DVD Factory 2010. However, this is not a limitation in VideoStudio Pro X2, our video editing solution.

Conclusion: If you don't use Menus that often stick with X2!

dab035 -- just be careful when you open your X2 project in X3. Sure, it can read it. VS has always been forward compatible in all its versions. But when you save that project in X3, it will save in X3 project format, and VS is NOT backwards compatible i.e. X2 cannot open an X3 project file. So if you do save that project in X3, use SAVE AS, and click on the downward arrow in the dialogue box which appears (below the File Name) and select X2 as the project format...

Wow! I have been struggling with this for a few days now...Glad I came to the forums to find out my answer! I can't believe it...no menu shut off? I burn 99% of my DVDs without a menu. I hope they supply a patch or something to correct this.

Don't hold your breath. DVD Factory 2010 is deliberately built that way. It was not an oversight. It would probably take a complete re-write -- not just a patch -- to add that feature. And frankly, they would be better forgetting about the program altogether rather than wasting their time on re-writing it...

Edit with X3 but author in X2. The way to do that is to create an edited Video from X3 via the [Share] tab - Create Video.
You can then import that new video into X2 or your favourite authoring program (MovieFactory / DVD Workshop etc.) to create the Menus and burn to disc.

Please, make your feelings known to Corel. Contact technical support or customer service and express your concerns. They need to know your dissatisfaction.

I have been authorised by Corel to inform our Web Board Members that Corel are aware of the problems and feelings towards the new Authoring Stage. Discussions have taken place involving Corel, Ron, Ken and myself and a solution is being worked on.

Please hang in there while Corel try and resolve this issue. Rather than a quick overnight fix that turns nasty, it is better that Corel spend a little time getting this solution right.

I cannot go into details at the moment because a number of alternatives are being considered and I would not wish to mislead or confuse our members.

What about going to the Share menu in either of the apps, saving an appropriate file there and just burning to a DVD outside of VideoStudio?

Or when you get to the template window, select the "Simple" tab. The one that's 3rd to the right (the filmstrip with nothing on it), will not add anything to your movie.

Until the solution for X3 is sorted out we have been recommending that you edit in X3, create a video file, then import that into a previous version of VS to do your authoring.

So, any suggestions for those of us who started with X3 and don't want menus? How do I get a copy of X2??

Thanks,

Here's the story, Jeff...I did, in fact, start with X2. However, two weeks later Corel came out with X3. The only way I could get X3 without paying full price for it (after just having paid full price for X2), was to uninstall X2, and purchase X3. Corel sends you a form that forces you to uninstall X2 prior to getting a refund for it.

I guess I'll try MovieFactory...

Do you have MovieFactory? If so, then yes you can use that. Create a video file (MPEG2) in X3, then import that file into MovieFactory for authoring/burning.
