Big error after installing PhotoImpact XL
Listen up to this strange thing. It happend twice to me and I don't seem to know HOW it happend
I write for a dutch website and some times I need to upload pictures to the server of that website. So I pick some pictures from my documents and press send, but I get this error that the files are to big or not .jpg/.gif
>>
the fact is : they are small enough and they are .jpg/.gif (no problems with gif by the way, only jpg)
I formatted my laptop complete and reinstalled everything and everything worked again. I was able to upload images to the server (I do this via our content manager system -cms), BUT after installing PhotoImpact XL again everything went wrong.
It didn't worked again after installing, so I deleted PhotoImpact XL and all of his components. I even deleted a lot of registery keys and tried to upload again : no succes
I'm stuck!!! Who can help me or allready had this problem!?
Mike

What OS you are using?
Did you try the PI XL patch before deleting the software?
Get the patch here: http://www.ulead.com/tech/pi/pi_ftp_pixl.htm
PhotoImpact and most Ulead Products will automatically look for an Internet Connection and dial up the Ulead Server, each time you Open the Software, unless you turn off this feature in Preferences. Somtimes when Ulead is dialing and you are dialing you will cause a lockup and the connection will fail.
You might have hacked one to many Keys in your Registry. If the above dosen't work then reinstall your OS, then Ulead, the patch, then your Anti-virus protection, and try again.
If nothing works you need the Longer Term Tech Support from Ulead, as searching the Web and Ulead yield No answeres to this problem.

I have Windows XP Pro and I tried reinstalling UPI XP just an hour ago but still no succes. After reinstalling I patched it and it still doesn't work.
Now I have to reinstal my windows XP Pro right? Or, you were talking about preferences, can I change something there and if so, where can I find them?
"then your Anti-virus protection"
what exactly do I have to do with the virus protection!?
Oh, the registry keys I delete where after I noticed the problem so I couldn't have deleted one to many right?

Content Manager Systems allow authorized administrators to create, edit and delete content on their Web site without having to learn HTML or other programming languages.
If you have Win XP and tried to access the Web site through CMS, and did not have PI XL installed, then you are having an issue with CMS. There are dozens of CMS software Managers, and the exact server to client configuration to support your environment is critical, something on either end may have changed without your knowledge.
If, on the other hand you are saying that the files you tried to upload were created by PI XL this may mean the CMS, is blocking your upload, your new application may not have rights to upload it’s file extension to the Server. Did you use the PI XL Web, Link to File feature to upload?
You did say that you reinstalled your OS before installing PI XL again, and everything worked fine, so was the file you tried to upload a JPG created by PI XL or some other app?
As Mentioned before, PI XL and ALL Ulead products try to access the Internet to check with the Ulead Web Site each and every day, which may be conflicting with the CMS, as PI XL may not have privileges. Try going into PI XL, click on Preferences, then Uncheck the combo box: Check Ulead’s Web site X many days, this will turn off Internet access. Don’t use the PI XL Web Link to File feature to upload files.

"You did say that you reinstalled your OS before installing PI XL again, and everything worked fine, so was the file you tried to upload a JPG created by PI XL or some other app? "
As I allready said, it''s not about in which program I make the images. In PhotoShop created images also won't be uploaded.

It was allready unchecked and I do not use the web link-service
It's also not about the CMS because we use the same CMS with about 12 people and I am the only one who has these problems. Since, as told, I installed UPI the upload didn't worked any more. If I may say... UPI is the problem.
BTW via a Dutch forum I contacted a few people. With them I tried to see if there is something wrong with my registery keys. But changing that also didn't helped.

Yeah you are probably right, PI XL or another app may have overwritten a critical file, an OS DLL with a newer or older version that has changed the CMS configuration, which would leave you the only one having the trouble.
Sometimwes Uninstalling an Application won't uninstall the file, so that is probaly why when you reinstalled your OS it worked, but then when you reinstalled PI XL it didn't. Can't tell you what file that may have been.
Looks like you only have two options here. Reinstall your OS without PI XL, or go for TECH Support. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Depends on the damage to your files or your Registry.
After un-installing all of the ULead prducts, have you tried to Restore you computer back to the point just after the Re-install of your OS before you installed PI XL? If the Restore dosen't work then:
A Re-install over the previous OS may work and overwrite what went wrong, or may not as re-installing the OS newer files are not tampered with during the install process. Parts of the the Registry are also reused in the re-install and may keep information that could still cause a crash.
You can't save any of your defaults in a UNC for fear something may linger in the Transfer. So it is up to you which method you want to try.
One: Uninstall all of Ulead products, hack the registry if you dare, and then delete all remaining Folders and files pertaining to Ulead Products. Then re-install your OS over the existing OS and hope everything gets back to normal.
OR! If the Previous dosen't work:
Two: Reformat your Hard Drive, at least twice, the second format will get rid of the unformat info for the first, which can be a very large file, a third for security if you want. Reinstall your OS, get your updates, don't install Ulead, then go for the long term TECH Support and see if they have a solution for the problem.
If you have done all of this and still can't upload then CMS is the culprit, even if all other members are not having the problem.
