Do anyone know if VSX3 files are supposed to open in VSX2. I finished editing a video I started in VSx2 with VSx3 trial and it now wont open in VSX2. Is this a ploy to make people upgrade I wonder.
Seriouslly anyone know.

All versions of VS that I have used are only backwards compatible for up to two versions BUT you have to save the project (in X3) as an X2 project file. When you go to Save As, and get the little box to give it a name, then the window immediately below that has a drop-down menu which offers X2 and VS 11 as the possible formats for the new project file (as well of course as X3 format). But a pure X3 project file cannot be read by a previous version, just as a pure X2 project could not be read by previous versions, and so on down the line...
Equally, however, the later version of VS can always read earlier version project files... In other words, VS is forward compatible, but backward compatible only in the limited way I describe above...

...except for the NewBlueFx filters included in VS X2, which looks like not being in the X3.
In that case, better to render the part of movie containing these filters with X2 and import the result in X3. Anyway, X2 NewBlueFx filters are aimed to reproduce the old-movie style, so, no issue about loosing the quality: it's exactly what the filters already do

I'm afraid I don't currently have X2 on this computer (recently reformatted with Win 7 and have not gotten around to loading X2 as yet...) But looking at X3, and from memory, the only NewBlue filter not in X3 is the Old Film one(s). There is, however an Old Film filter which can be widely customised -- as can most of the other filters.
Apart from P-in-P, the other NewBlue Filters in X3 are Active Camera, Air Brush, Crops Borders, Detail Enhance and Water Color. Are there any others in X2?
