VS7 DVD burn process ?

Post by dsoniat »

following the tutorials, why first render to MPEG, then pull that in to a new project?

i edit in DV avi, can't i just render to MPEG at the end? will i loose quality?

thanks much... David S. - Tampa, FL

No you won't lose any quality at all. In fact this is my chosen method; I think it is more logical to stay in DV format until the final burn. The argument from the forum is that the final burn takes longer this way; I don't worry about an extra hour or so, and I have never had quality issues.

jhunter has done some extensive experiments and, back in the old forum, explained that he found no perceptible degradation after several re-edits in .MPEG format. He's done a real service to everyone because .MPEG format was beginning to get a rep for being really low grade. Apparently it is not.

However, I still do all my editing in .AVI and create a new .AVI file before rendering to .MPEG. I've got the HD space for it, and with .AVI I can send my edited movie back out onto D8 videotape if I want to.
