Vertical bars on dvd
Hello
I have created a dvd form a video file 720*576 (4:3) and it has vertical black bars on both left and right side of the frame. When I export the file to mpeg2 file than its ok (perform non square pixel rendering uncheked), but when I use the Create Disc option I alwasy get a DVD with vertical bars on the sides. How can I set it to make the DVD without the bars ?
Videostudio x2 pro
Windows 7 64bit
Best Regards

Hi haklart
More info needed please
What Version of VS are you using?
What are the properties of the video clip.?
If you are using standard DVD type video then you should have Non Square Pixel Rendering selected, this option is selected by default.
You are using 4:3 aspect ratio video, make sure the project properties reflect 4:3
File - Project Properties ¡V Edit
When you burn a DVD you should use 4:3 ratio not 16:9
View the burner window lower left.

The version of VS is 12.0.98.1 Pro. The video clip that I want convert to dvd was captured from VHS. Encoded with Huffyuv lossles codec. 720*576 25fps.
Under File - Project properties - Edit ... I use the following settings:
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Perform non-square pixel is checked!
In Create Disc im using the following settings:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps

Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
In the preview windows it looks ok ... no bars, but the output has the bars

And what kind of TV are you viewing this on? A wide-screen model? If so, the black bars are normal. Viewing SD TV shows will show the same thing. HD TV shows will be full screen.
If you want your picture to be full screen there is most likely a setting in your TV or your DVD player (probably both) that will stretch the picture to fit, but it will be distorted.

I have a widescreen tv and I know that If im viewing 4:3 material than there will be black bars on the sides, but in my case the black bars are in the video. So when im viewing it i have the black bars coded in the video+the bars because Im viewing it on a 16:9 tv. If I export the video to mpeg2 in vs than its ok. I have black bars just because I have 16:9 tv, but If i make a dvd in vs then I get a 720*576 sized videoframes which has two black bar on the sides. And I dont know why it doing this!

Hello
I set the background color to white. No black bars, but when I made the dvd there were the bars on both side with white colour
"The perform non-square pixel" checkbox was unchecked. After that enabled "The perform non-square pixel" option and I saw in the preview that the white bars on both side are there and I created a dvd and the white bars where there. For me it looks like it renders the dvd with "non-square pixel rendering " enabled even if its turned off in the projects settings. Have you got any idea why is this happening?

Are you going straight from your project in the timeline and choosing Share>Create Disc? The reason I ask is, in your first post you state "When I export the file to mpeg2 file than its ok (perform non square pixel rendering uncheked), but when I use the Create Disc option I alwasy get a DVD with vertical bars on the sides."
If going straight from your project in the timeline to Share>Create Disc is your workflow, try the following.
~From your project go to Share>Create Video File. You say that file is fine.
~Then clear the timeline (File>New Project).
~Now go to Share>Create Disc.
~When the burning module opens use Insert Media to insert your video file into the burning timeline.
~Set your burn properties and burn the project.

That workaround has been around for several years/versions for instances just like this when things don't work right, for reasons we just don't know.

Hi
The option for Non Square Pixel Rendering should be selected/ticked.
By viewing the video with a white background we can be sure that the black border is not part of the video.
The preview screen of X2 shows the unused parts as being a grey chequered effect.
With the project set to 16:9 you will see these squares clearly at the top and bottom.
The white centre being rectangular.
With your project set to 4:3 the chequered effect/squares if visible will show left and right.
The white centre being almost square, and filling most of the screen
So what do you see?
From what you describe your project properties seem to be set for widescreen 16:9, although your video is 4:3

Hi
I see this:
Project is 4:3 ; 720*576; non-square ticked:

Project is 4:3 ; 720*576; non-square unticked:

When I make a dvd with create disc function (here the aspect ratio is the same 4:3 like in the project settings) the result looks like the first picture ( same result when non-square option is ticked/unticked).
