I ran the Windoze installer cleanup utility and it finds both VS 11 and 12 but no 13.

It finds something called VIO (1.6.0.272). I dunno what that is.

While we're at it, might you happen to no where the documentation is for x3? It's not in the demo version (installed on another system) and it's not on the X3 install cd.

Up in the right hand corner of X3 are 3 icons. The "X" for closing the program, the "-" to minimize, and the Help and Product Information button. Clicking that will open the Corel Guide. Click on the Learn tab, then click the blue Launch Help button. That will open an Internet browser window. That is the only help documentation I am aware of.

Thanks for that bit if info, but how disappointing....no more printed manual.

I just UNINSTALLED the demo X3 version from another system.

Rather than UPGRADE, I thought I'd just install from the DVD. But, alas no dice. Same problem that I've reported above.

I'll contact Corel tomorrow but it sure seems that the install/uninstall was not thoroughly tested.

Depending upon how it goes with them, I might ask for my $20.00 back.

I've already spent more than $100 worth of my time just trying to install the program. I can continue to use X2 until X3 is more thoroughly debugged.

Thanks, as always, for your prompt responses.

I have had no problems with VS X3 and I am very pleased with the new editing features and its robustness. I have 64 bit Windows 7 Pro and have both X3 and X2 installed and will soon be deleting X2 since I can't imagine going back to it. I don't make DVD's any more so the poor authoring module of X3 doesn't bother me. In fact, i have always found the DVD creation of VS pretty poor compared to other authoring modules that are available... Al

Like I said, XP crashed during the install. When I restarted it from the CD, it just crapped out with the same message in my previous post.
Only software I can see in the registry is Ulead 11 and Corel VS 12.
I still have both of these running fine on this system.
I'm kinda stuck at this time. :(

Perhaps you need to fix whatever became broken on your computer when it crashed. Perhaps a check of your hard drive(s) for bad blocks, lost clusters etc.

chkdsk.

I know what's "broken"....I added more memory (the proper kind) and it doesn't like it.

If I remove the added mem module it never traps.

Since this same problem occurred on yet another system yesterday I know is an X3 problem. X3's nstall/remove capabilities leave a lot to be desire.

There's another install bug as well.
I use 1152x854 screen rez and VS X3 complains about a rez mismatch and aborts the install. X2 NEVER did this.

Obviously this program as very complex but I'd think there's "some" beta tester out there that would have found/reported this.

From the Corel website:

Minimum display resolution: 1024 x 768

My 1152x854 would seem to exceed that.

I will do more "testing" today to see if this has anything to do w/my problem.

Don't sea how but pooters can b "funny" that way.

If it can be helpful for anybody: when I tried the VS X3 installation, I was not connected to internet and the installation failed.
Then, once connected, I saw that during the installation the MS Net 3.5 SP1 was downloaded (I already had the MS NET 3.5 but it looked like the SP1 was missing).
With internet on, the VS X3 installation completed successfully.

Well, after increasing rez to 1280x1024 I'm now able to install the demo X3 versions on both "failing" computers.

Both pooters were connected to the internet today and during all of yesterday's troubles.

AFTER I install, I'm able to return to my "default" 1152x864 video mode.

Something about the install gets confuse. :?
