Ulead has always been my best editing software. Only switched to pinnacle, when Ulead said; it would not do 5.1 audio. When they finally incorporated it, I came back and was happy. I used VSx2, to make Blu-ray disc, from un-recoded trimmed AVCHD files; from another program. It's crude, no effects or nothing; but you don't lose quality.
Things I didn't like, that Ulead rid of. You could make iso files, and then burn them. With VSx2, you can make a Blu-Ray disc. But if you wanted to make copies, I had copy using UDF 2.5 format, and copy the disk, to a folder. Copy all my disk, from there. VSx3 came, I couldn't wait to try it.
Very disappointed in my output setting options. After all this time I figured, this would be an improvement. Was dissapointed in the quality of the AVCHD to Blu-ray, the standard DVD, and even the hybird AVCHD discs. I then searched the net. Not wanting to spend $600; for the only program, that gave me good AVCHD to DVD. I found a software progarm, under $100.
This program is where X3, should be now. It gives me output options,
I don't even know how to use yet; GOPs, etc., etc., It has given me the best AVCHD to DVD quality I ever made; using my most complex scenes. The latest AVCHD to Blu-Ray, disc I made; is not as great, as my non-recoded versions, after I changed the settings; but there's alot more I probaly can do, to improve on that. You can save your settings, so you can rememeber what you messed with last time. But, you have to, say yes; to all new files, before you burn, or you wont see the changes. On the DVD, I saw VBR rates go as high as +10k, and down to 3k; like you see on commercial videos. Thanks, VS, BL, Pete & Steve. The software is made in the UK, has a free trial. Tried their $300, super pro version one, didn't like it, Plus, it wouldn't let you burn a DVD. Some license b.s. The software company, starts with a "M". That's all I'm gonna say. Best I worked with yet. Must be the old Ulead people. Bye. and thanks again....

Despite the fact that VSX3 has now left the Beta Stage and has been made available to the public for purchase, I can assure you that the Beta Team are still in dialogue with Corel and are making our views known, especially the abysmal new authoring tool.

Just to update the things I found out. 1- Blu~Ray dscs, can be encoded in MPG2 or MPG4. I found out why my BD disc, were not as good as the original AVCHD files. Instead of playing with GOPS, and settings. I now can use; MPG4 format encoding, to the BD disc; now also availiable, with Corel X4. I only got the sound, and menus, when I first tried it, with my TV. But on my computers, the video played, and everything worked; the videos were stunning, just like, the original AVCHD files. Not one to give up; I didn't notice in my haste. Frames 25.. Not 29.95. Presto..!! That was it. I then checked the perfect copy AVCHD to BD, I made with X2. over a year ago. The Video, was not recoded to MPG2, it stayed the original Mpg4 format. So, if I want a perfect AVCHD to BD editing; I have to format the BD disc, in MPG4, not MPG2; (wasn't availiable before). Now, I'm re-doing all my Blu-Ray videos with MPG4 coding; and wow, no complaints here. Finally after 1X DVD burners, and tons of, video making progams; I finally get to edit, what I see on my camera, and see an perfect copy, on my Disc..!! Wait ; Corel sent me a email of their X4. Let me try it... I made a small, two clip, 1 minute video. Hey this is better. I can push the clips into each other, and get auto fade (finally). Hey look, Blu~Ray output; MPG2 or MPG4. Why waste my time, with the MPG2. Finished; that was quick... Before I burned, the test BD-R. I looked at the mpg4 video, in the Blu~Ray folders. This is what burns, on your disc; and What you'll see, on your TV. You got to be kidding me. Thankyou Corel, for the email; about X4. I don't know who the engineers are, who designed the output stage? But the MPG4 video, in the folder; is nothing even close, to my AVCHD files. I'll leave it at that. I didn't come here, to bash Corel; I expected to see an improvement. Only competition, forces lower pricing, better products. If there is a X5, in the future; I'll try it too. But as for now; you got to do better than this. To me quality, is more important, than how many special effects between scenes; number of fixed menus, etc.

I bailed out after X3 release (not buying it, of course) and countless problems with AVCHD, in the same direction.
I am not going back.

This thread is nothing but a rant and rave against Corel. It was over a year ago the last post was made. It was better off left buried. The web board, and the product specific forums are not for that purpose. They are to provide help when needed. If you need help then please don't hesitate to post accordingly, or to offer help. Ranting, railing serves no useful purpose.
