X3 edit, X2 Author

Post by JohnDale »

Hi All
Would all of you who have used X3 consider the editing stage value for money. If X2 is used for the authoring stage.

Would there be any limitations in using this workflow?.

I like the new editing features of X3. I have used the clip replace, copy and paste, and the new video filters. Given that all my work now is files to be viewed via the web or via a media player, I don't care about creating DVD's any more... Al

At the moment I think I speak on behalf of the rest of the Beta Testing Team and would say that yes we agree with that statement. Presently none of the Beta Team now have access to VSX3 because we found out at the turn of midnight as we entered February that the Beta Software expired.

We have of course made a protest to Corel asking how do they expect us to continue to try and assist the members of this forum from pure memory!
For what its worth before I came across the new authoring stage my hair was dark brown.

I also like some of the new features in X2 - the ability to use video filters on titles topping the list. And you've obviously read or experienced the absolute joke that the new X3 authoring module is. If I were to upgrade the X3 editing/X2 authoring would be my workflow.

My queston is, is half a program worth the money?

The only limitation I can think of in using X2 as the authoring module for X3 is that you would first need to save your X3 project in X2 format (which is easy). But the X2 project would only be able to play those features it shares with X3, and not those which are new to X3. I am thinking in particular in this respect of the new New Blue P-in-P filter, which is great, but doesn't exist in X2. In other words you would lose the work you did in producing P-in-P.

There is, of course, a work-around which I already used with the Beta version of X3. In fact I did my P-in-P work, and then rendered that as a separate project into a new video file. Then inserted that new file into my larger project, and saved the whole thing as an X2 project for authoring. And it worked just fine with no visible loss of quality...

I have been authorised by Corel to inform our Web Board Members that Corel are aware of the problems and feelings towards the new Authoring Stage. Discussions have taken place involving Corel, Ron, Ken and myself and a solution is being worked on.

Please hang in there while Corel try and resolve this issue. Rather than a quick overnight fix that turns nasty, it is better that Corel spend a little time getting this solution right.

I cannot go into details at the moment because a number of alternatives are being considered and I would not wish to mislead or confuse our members.
