Backing Up PSP X2 Customized Configuration

Post by Byron »

From Help | Using custom workspaces | Saving custom workspaces - When you save a workspace, Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo saves the information in a PSPWorkspace file. The following information is stored:

• ruler, grid, and guide information
• menu, palette, and toolbar settings, locations, and docking status
• full screen edit mode status
• open images, including zoom levels and scroll bar locations

However, for example, Workspace does not capture settings for "Show splash screen when application starts" or "Recently used file list contains ..." settings found in the File | Preferences | General Program Preferences | Miscellaneous menu item. I assume there are many other customized settings (application preferences, ...) that are not captured by the Workspace feature.

Anyone know of a relatively quick and easy procedure to backup most or all customized settings, and to restore them after fresh reinstall of PSP X2?

TIA, Byron

I save my workspace name to My PSP Files, because if uninstalling PSP it will not remove those files unless you tick the box to tell it to do so, then you will lose all your personal files etc. including your workspace name.

I've just reinstalled PSP and opened my workspace and it's exactly the same as before. No splash screen.

Hi Mauren. I was beginning to wonder how far I was off the beaten path.(Still do for that matter...)

My installation of PSP doesn't behave as you described. For example, if I:
  1. disable "Show splash screen when application starts",
  2. save a new Workspace (Test),
  3. restart PSP (splash screen isn't displayed),
  4. enable "Show splash screen when application starts",
  5. restart PSP (splash screen is displayed), and then
  6. load Test Workspace (created after disabling splash screen),
the "Show splash screen when application starts" preferences option is still enabled. And the splash screen is still displayed when restarting PSP.

I'm wondering if you can recreate this behavior, perhaps your experience after reinstalling PSP was due to some other remnants from the previous installation?

Cheers, Byron

Record a script while loading your customised workspace, and changing the program preferences. Save the script.
If you have to reinstall PSP or reset it to its defaults, running that script will load your workspace and preferences.

Looks like I've got another PSP feature to learn after I reinstall PSP. I assume by your response that there is no "relatively quick and easy procedure to backup most or all customized settings" that currently exist.

Thanks Tim, Byron
