VideoStudio Pro X3 and DVD
I have seen many complaints regarding HD video, but I would like to know if these rendering and burning problems apply to Standard DVD, which I prefer? Is it worth the upgrade from X2 to X3 as it pertains to DVD video?

With each successive version Corel adds just a few more features. These are what most call "bells and whistles". VS X3 is no exception. I will give them credit for finally implementing some very long over due functions, such as being able to copy/paste clips in the time-line, copy/paste attributes that includes all filters and effects applied, and some of New Blue Video Filters, which are rather costly on their own.
Now the cons, the downside... The DVD module is no longer there. Instead it has been replaced with Digital Studio 2010. This is one of Corel's greatest abominations. SD, HD, or AVCHD, if the final product is to be burnt to disk, this is not a program to use. There is no other burn module.
They also replaced the Video Wizard with Video Studio Express 2010, another abomination.
I'm not going to advise one way or the other, that's your decision to make. Other programs have their share of problems. This can be seen by visiting their forums. I'm just being up-front and honest with my findings while beta-testing this version.

Is the rendering time any better for DVD? Are there any new improvements for video correction? I author with other software which I find much better-TmpGenc TDA. Therefore, I am solely interested in editing aspects.

The editing stage is much improved on the earlier version and we (The Beta Team) particularly liked the new blue filters which at long last gave us the ability to insert moving paths. We also liked the ability to be able to replace clips on the time line, the new effects that can be applied to Titles, the more powerful smartsound 5 and various other things.
If you are prepared to purchase it purely for editing but intend to use another program for authoring - such as an earlier version of VideoStudio or a version of MovieFactory such as 4, 5, 6 or 7 - or better still DVD Workshop
then I would say go for it.
The best thing to do is to download a trial version and see for yourself.

Dual audio track
I see that there are (finally
) several new audio tracks - but no DVD module.
Is it somehow possible to create a DVD stream with dual audio channel (for eg. selectable dual language)?
Or the X3 has nothing to do anymore with DVD authoring and we have to use the old reliable MF6 or VS10 etc? (UNfortunatelly they do not support dual audio channels on DVD).
Thank you for the reply.

What's the difference between "Movie Factory", "digital Studio"(As indicated by Ron P.'s reply), and "DVD Workshop ... generally (I'm only seeking broad brush overview of each program)?
According to the email I got from Corel, and thier web page, X3 comes with Movie Factory 2010 Pro. Is MF somehow different than what was issued for the X3 Beta tester?
And how does each distinguish itself compared to what comes now with the X3 download (Purchase or Trial).
I ask because the front end of X3 (Editing, rendering, effects) looks worth serious consideration, but I already have X2 and after using much of the insights found on this board I can make DVD's without too much effort.
Thanks

DVD Workshop was a prosumer level authoring tool. It is no longer produced or supported.
DVD Movie Factory was a very good consumer level authoring app that also had some basic video editing tools. That is not to be confused with (although it is - on purpose?) the new Movie Factory Pro. What comes with X3 is nothing close to the old DVD Movie Factory.
Digital Studio is...crap.

MovieFactory is very similar to the authoring stage of VideoStudio up to and including Version 12 (X2)
Digital Studio is the latest piece of software from Corel but unfortunately bears very little resemblance to the tried and trusted authoring tools found in MovieFactory (Up to and including Version 7) and VideoStudio (Up to and including Version 12 (X2). Feedback so far about Digital Studio has been poor - you can search the Digital Studio forum to form your own opinion.
DVD Workshop is now a discontinued product that works on XP but not Vista / Windows 7. It does not enable you to create a true 16.9 Menu without a work round but having said that it is still my favourite authoring program.
DVD Workshop enables you to take full control of the DVD Menu including starting with a blank screen, adding alternative audio tracks and subtitle tracks.

Thanks for clearing that up.
OK, I found MF 6 available on various o-line sights ~50$ or so.
From your personal experience, or general thoughts for that matter, could quailty video's be generated from ...
...Rendering with X3, create a separate video file, import that file into MF 6, burn DVD / Blu-Ray.
Meaning, would you see value in buying X3 for the front end and MF 6 for the back half.
Together they'd be about 120$ (US), or would the wiser move to be spend the 120 - 200$ on a more fully integrated package, and is there such a video / authoring package?
I've used Ulead ... oops, uh, Corel, for years for general home / church type videos, but there may be opportunity for a little bit more of a commercial avenue (Not full on Pro, but more than home movies) but money is still a bit of an issue.
Again, thanks

If you are buying MF6, make sure you get the version with the plus sign (+) in the title -- that can handle high definition video. MF 7 does a better job, but unfortunately, for some strange marketing reason on the part of Corel, was never made available for sale in North America or, I think, Europe. However we in Australian and New Zealand, and at least some parts of Asia, could buy it...

While some of the new features are nice, I don't know that they are worth $70. I guess only you can decide that. As far as the workflow of editing with X3 and burning with something else, that would be fine.Meaning, would you see value in buying X3 for the front end and MF 6 for the back half.

Corel needs to hear the opinions of everyone, not just the few beta testers! They obviously didn't listen to us.
