Corel Studio will no import from Canon HV30

Corel Studio will no import from Canon HV30
I am using the trial version of Corel Studio X2... (Good think I didn't buy it outright.) For some reason it will not import video from my Canon HV30 in standard mode. I repeatedly get an error message that says... Unable to switch to capture mode. Check if your capture driver is working properly.
I have been unable to find any solution to the problem from my research on google. Windows Movie Maker has no problem capturing video from my HV30. So I have used WMM to capture the video, and then import it into Corel after I publish it to my computer. This is hardly a good solution. If I can't find a solution from this message board, I'm going to remove it from from my laptop before the 30 day trial period is over. It looked like the edit program for beginners, but it's turning into frustration. For information... I'm working with Vista.
Can anyone give me an idea what the problem is?
Thank you in advance.

I'm afraid that the HV30 can be very tempremental when it comes to Videostudio. I have owned ALL versions of Videostudio, from 10, right up to X2 Pro, and no doubt will get the latest version. I have never had any problems up until the middle of last year, when it simply rendered captured files as being corrupt. That was HD files, not SD. After many e-mails, phone calls and arguments with Corel, there answer was that Videostudio did NOT SUPPORT the HV30!! Even though I have used it for a couple of years, and even after, (for whatever reason), my HV30 suddenly decided to start working again without problems! Good luck!

Thanks so much folks, for answering my post. I tried to contact Corel, but that to was just as frustrating. It looks like I need to deep six Corel Studio Pro X2. It's just not worth the aggravation. Thanks again.

If you like X2 otherwise why not capture with something else such as WMM (as above)?

I'm with Jeff on this, (happy New Year mate!). Videostudio is a great product, well worth persevering with. I do not know what the issue is with the HV30 and Videostudio, except that THEIR official word is that there is one. I think, verbatim, they states that Videostudio "does not recommend or support the Canon HV30, as it is not one of the "approved" cameras.
That said, I have always used it, both with my HV30 and my XH-A1. Other than a glitch last year, where anything captured would simply freeze, and not play the file, I have had no problems. Even using HDV Split to capture didn't solve whatever the mysterious problem that I encountered, but since then, I can only recommend it.

I'm not sure this is related but I had a problem last week while trying to capture HD footage from my HV30 into X2 ( via firewire ) but I was only getting SD resolution. I found the camera setting for it's output was on DV rather than HDMI/DV once I changed it to HDMI/DV it worked perfectly. As a test I set it back to just DV and once again got SD footage from the same tape.

Try this!!
I also have an HV30 camcorder and I never had trouble capturing but I found out early on I could no longer capture and split by scene with HDV like I could with DV.
Someone here turned me on to this free capture program that not only captures flawlessly but splits your video into one file for each time you started and stopped the recording as you shot it. It's called HDV split and you can download it here:

I would use this program to capture, no matter what you ultimately use to edit. I do agree not to scuttle VS just yet. It's a pretty nice program and the support here on this forum is priceless.
