I do not like the DVD Factory (or whatever it's called) for burning discs. Mind you I only did a quick scanning of it, but I did not see any way to make adjustments like I could with older versions of VS. If I'm overlooking something, I stand corrected. If not, this is a huge mistake on Corel's part.
As Steve Jones said in another thread, the Beta testers strongly suggested to Corel that they drop the inclusion of DVD Factory 2010 as the burning engine for VS because it was slow and limited. We also suggested they revert to the old tried and true (well, often true! ) burning engine from previous versions. But we were ignored...

I don't see all of the newblue movie effects that are with X2. Also, I do not like the DVD Factory (or whatever it's called) for burning discs. That's correct. They took off the NewBlueFx inserted in VS X2 and replaced with some others. I think that to enforce people to pay money, they should add something, not just replacing with something else...

Actually, after some quick tour, I got the feeling that the new version, despite surely solving some issues, is not a big jump ahead compared to the VS X2. Reading the various comments, it also loks like something worstened, so, I will stay with the VS X2 at least till the VS X4... :-)

Ouch. Some of the new features I saw in the webinar looked cool. But I don't really use a lot of effects anyway, and I'm quite comfortable with the old disc burning method, as well as VS itself. Looks like I won't be in such a hurry to upgrade to X3, if I do at all.

Corel now is using what's called Get More and Do More functions built into the program. In the upper right corner of the UI, you should see a small circle containing a down arrow surrounded by dots. Click on that to open a window. This circle will also appear (and disappear), whenever there is new content offered. A link is provided to download and install it.

I know while beta-testing Ken Berry and I grew to love this Get More button, didn't we Ken...;)

So if you really want the X2 NewBlueFx in your X3 why not just copy them over?

Just tried your suggestion: I copied the .vft files in the X3\vft_plug folder.
Pls, correct me if I missed some other operation in addition to jsut copying these files...
VS X3 reads these plug-ins but then it shows them as black boxes and once applied to a clip, they just turn the clip to black.
It looks like they are not activated, i.e., same as for other NewBlueFx if the activation key is not inserted.
In VS X2 they are probably activated at teh installation.
Btw, just for the record, I also tried the opposite, i.e. copying the X3 NewBlueFx PiP back to X2, but in this case the situation is even worst, as VS X2 alerts a plug-in corruption message once the effect is selected...

You may be correct that an activation key must be applied.

Then it sounds like a NewBlue issue, not VS.

So what would happen if you opened an X2 project in X3 that used filters / effects that are no longer included?

After reading this thread, I can't imagine myself upgrading anytime soon. I purchased Pro X2 from Amazon for $39, I can't see paying $69 more to upgrade.

Or vice-versa. That's a great question.

 I only bought the upgrade to X2 on 23rd October!!! And in the UK they are asking for ¢G59 ($100) for the upgrade!!! They have to be joking, particularly when the only positive change seems to be fixing the serious AVCHD bug that should have been sorted in a patch a long time ago...

Please, please, please - you are all preaching to the choir! Corel doesn't frequent this forum. You need to express your concerns and displeasure with customer or technical support. If enough people tell them they are not upgrading then maybe Corel will do something about it.

Can you output the Blu-ray output folders to hard disc, without having to burn directly to a Blu-ray disc.

What is the use of sending any complaints to Corel They dont care as long as they get your money. And they wont be getting any money off me for X3. I sent several complaints about problems with VS11 and the response I got was basically we dont answer questions after installation you haev to pay extra for that service.... NOT LIKELY
Another thing I cannot understand with Corel is that they release a trial version with faults or limitations (X2 chapter advance button missing Their answer use Ctrl N and in X3 there is NO ISO feature although Phil says there is) Would you buy a car if your test drive didnt allow you to start the engine.
The mind set of Corel is beyond me
If you pay for an item IT should work
