I have VS10 VSx2 and VS X3 trial all installed. They install to separate folders so they do not interfere with each other and X2 and X3 are compatible with each others files.
I think I will stay with X2 because of X3s retrograde step of using WinDVD2010 to render and burn

Hmmm...doesn't look too good. What was your "other tool" if you don't mind my asking?

so after quick test It seems blips are not there!!! great 8)
I will check files also on plasma through ps3 to see if there is some picture deterioration

and what is also big difference I would say that workflow is much faster (compared to X2): preview etc.

Ken Berry wrote:My major complaint with X3 is not to do with the editing module, but with the supplied authoring/burning module, which is simply none other than Corel Digital Studio 2010. The burning module of that suite is -- at least to a number of us -- quite slow to load and react. Its interface is rather obscure -- so I hope they provide adequate documentation for its "hidden" controls... From my own point of view, it simply does not seem to refer to HDV as an acceptable format at all -- though admittedly seems to handle AVCHD well, and allow -- after one of the somewhat obscure processes I mentioned above -- production of an AVCHD folder, as well as a standard Blu-Ray folder.
Sort of like having a band with all the best instruments; Gibson Les Paul, Marshall amps, etc. Then you finish it off with a Fisher-Price microphone... :?

Well, when spending the $$$ for a PRO video editor (as the name leads you to believe) I wouldn't expect a Fisher-Price authoring/burning module.

While they install to separate folders that is a shed load of DLLs that are shared and these are updated to the versions used in X3. This hopefully should not cause any issues (they are designed to be shared but I don't trust Corel to have done any testing with the new libraries to older products) so if you find X2 behaving differently this is the likely reason.

Take a look at Program Files\Common Files\Ulead, you will find a lot of files with December timestamps after installing X3, these would have placed X2 versions.

An earlier poster on this thread asked if x3 supported AVCDH Lite. According to this blurb on Corel's site, answer YES
"AVCHD™, AVCHD™ Lite and BD camcorders"

The transitions blips do indeed seem to be gone, as reported by one of the mods who was a beta tester. Yea!
My findings were the blips were still there coming out of a transition just hidden by the decoder better.

If you try a simple crossfade transition then smart render that out, then reimport that clip to the time line and then use the Create File and create a DVD output then watch that, how is the crossfade?

If you turn off the hardware decoder in VideoStudio (Settings - Preferences) under one of the tabs, then watch the smart rendered AVCHD file in VideoStudio full screen what do you see when it leaves the transition, I see a noticeable blip, like 2 or 3 frames have frozen.

Phil,
Maybe the "blips" you are seeing are different than the ones I was referring to. The blips I said seem to be gone are the ones caused by duplicate video frames. When X2 renders AVCHD it actually repeats two frames at or near the end of transitions. For example, if the the frame sequence should have been frames 23 24 25 26 27, the X2-generated sequence would be 23 24 25 24 25 26 27. (These are not actual frame counts; just an illustration to show that 2 frames are repeated - in this example, frames 24 and 25).

Played at full speed the video seems to have a brief blip or jer k at the end of the transition. In video that has steady movement, such as a person walking across the scene from left to right, if you advance the video frame-by-frame using X2's transport control, you could actually see the person jump backwards and then start walking forward again because it went from frame 26 to a repeat of frames 24 and 25.

In the one project I have tried with X3 trial, a frame by frame examination of the AVCHD video generated by X3 from AVCHD clips did not have these repeated frames. I also didn't notice any freezing of frames, but I wasn't looking for that so could have missed it.

I started to try the experiment you suggested, but X3 crashed while I was playing the video frame-by-frame. I need to leave for an appointment but I'll try again later today when I get some time.

Hi

Yes the blip is different in X3 when I've seen it, rather than frames repeated causing a slight jump back, this is more a freeze or a couple of dropped frames. It possibly is only visible when playing as a slight freeze, this was visible when playing in VideoStudio full screen and the hardware decoder turned off in VideoStudio.

Never crashed did it, how odd

AVCHD Lite is supported

Yes I can vouch that AVCHD Lite files from my Panasonic LUMIX camera is supported and renders correctly. I also vouch for the changes to the rendering offering many less options than in X2. I think all the options are there, but they are not presented in the pull down options. This is not good to have done this. For example, to create a Template now, one gets much more limited options than with X2... Al
