Problem with AAC audio (Windows 7)

Post by ibp_zippy »

Hello,

(I should have introduced myself before... and there's already a "Zippy" in this forum :D )

I have the PC described in "system" and a Samsung SC-MX20 camcorder that records MPEG-4 AVC with AAC audio. The files worked fine (for a P4) in VideoStudio Pro X2 under Windows XP. I installed Windows 7... and when rendering, the resulting audio is... I would call it "choppy" or something like that. Installed all the patches I found... the same. Then VS crashed because of "ulaacdec.dll"... and I confirmed it was a problem with the AAC decoder. As I said, I didn't have this problem under XP, and it's only with the camcorder files, when using other AAC sources the audio renders like it should.

Some info about the video file:

Audio
ID : 2
Format : AAC
Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec
Format version : Version 4
Format profile : LC
Format settings, SBR : Si
Format settings, PS : No

Nominal bit rate : 128Kbps
Channel(s) : 2canales

Please help me, I use the editor a lot and I don't want to go back to XP or convert every file produced by the camcorder or buy another one... I may buy another computer later this year so please tell me if more processor power would fix the problem.

Thank you :)

Nevermind, I'm going back to XP where things worked (relatively) well. Thanks anyway.

Why not create a Dual Boot System?
Another alternative is to use the method in my earlier post:
Dual Boot the Steve Jones Method

Hi ibp_zippy

I have the same problem as you. I have a Samsung SMX-K40BN camera and VSPx2. The camera records in h264 format mpeg4 and when I play videos with PROJECT selected the audio is choppy. With CLIP selected the audio is fine. When I play it too much VSPx2 crashes. It is the same in Windows XP and 7. I have a Panasonic SDR-S26 and it records in mpeg 2 and it is fine. I ordered VSPx3 to see if they fixed the problem. Did you go back to XP and did it fix your audio?

A quick look at this camcorder and I thought that I might like to have one. Then I read the specs. It records 720x 480 VGA, not even SVGA (Super VGA). They advertise it as being HD, which in this case is dead wrong. The camcorder upscales it. It uses the h.264 compression to record what amounts to DV on a smaller storage medium (SDHC card).

It does however record the audio AAC, 2-chan, 48.1kHz, which VS should not be having a problem with.

Do you have any other clips, effects, filters applied? This can affect preview playback in project mode. VS must throw all those together on-the-fly. As a general rule of thumb, Project Preview is going to be a crude representation of your project. How smoothly it plays depends on not only the complexity of your project, but your computer resources, that are immediately available for use by VS. You may have 4 gig of RAM on a Dual-core, 1TB HDD, but if the PCs resources are being "hogged" by other services, then VS will not have much at it's disposal.

Thanks for the response Ron

This happens even when I have only one clip in the timeline with no filters at all. As so far as my computer it runs very lean with a maximum of 34 processes running at idle. When I run VSPx2 the only thing running in the background is my anti virus and firewall. I even tried it on a Windows 7 machine with an Athlon2 Quad and 4Gigs of ram under the same conditions. And with the panasonic camera which records in mpeg 2 everything runs well, even with many clips in the timeline with filters, on both machines (better on the Quad). Corel said that they fixed the problem with H264 video with Sp1. Maybe H264 is not mainstream yet. Most other cameras record in mpeg 2. I know the new Panasonic cameras will be now recording in H264. This week I will receive VSPx3. So I will see if it wil make a difference.
