Occasionally I've wanted to remove part of a clip without losing associated titles or audio. I've been shoving the related clips to the side, then had to take the time to reposition them.
I've found a better way. If you're removing part of a clip, after you split the clip but before you remove it, adjust the playback speed of the remaining clip to 10%. This will lengthen the clip and probably cover all of the associated audio/titles. Then cut the clip you want to remove and return the playback speed to 100%.
Hint on cutting clips w/o losing related clips

Why not use "ripple editing" That's what it is for!Brain Champagne wrote:Occasionally I've wanted to remove part of a clip without losing associated titles or audio. I've been shoving the related clips to the side, then had to take the time to reposition them.

Hi John
I think Brian is using Ripple Editing.
When you remove a clip you are likely to also remove any associated clips, titles audio etc.
VS gives you a warning to this effect, usually you cancel the process, switch off Ripple Editing then remove the clip, but have to re-align the rest.
Brian seems to have found a workround to avoid this.
Will check this out later, I am rendering at the moment

I always try to do the cutting etc before adding the music and titles(does not always work though).I have moaned about ripple editing before because it does not align the titles, overlays and music to the video track when you have for instance shortened a clip. Ken

It is unclear if he is or is not using Ripple Editing. Just in case he isn't here is the "Tutorial"
Ripple Editing
Regarding the advice about not adding music until all the other editing has been completed - this will depend upon the project in hand.
If you have a video and you want to remove unwanted footage and later add background music, then yes - do everything else first and add the music last.
However..... if you are creating a slide show from a photo album then do it the other way round. Place the music on the music track first, then add the images individually so that you can vary the duration of each one so that you can make the pictures change with the beat of the music.

ripple editing
Hi
Ripple editing
If you cut a clip in order to remove/delete the end frames then Ripple Editing may report:-
¡¥Clips Related to this clip to be deleted will also be removed¡¦
So we choose ¡¥No¡¦ and switch off ripple editing.
If the frames are to the ¡¥end¡¦ of a clip we can remove them with ripple editing applied.
There are a few options, but do not cut the clip
1 / Simply changing the duration of the digital clock will reduce the length of the clip.
2 / Navigate to the position using the Mark ¡V Out (F4) bracket will remove the frames.
3 / Drag the yellow trim bar to resize the clip.
These options seem to work well with the end frames but the start frames can¡¦t be changed and ripple editing would need to be disabled.
Well that¡¦s the way it performed with my program.
