Hi All,
Just started using VS8 and have made two holiday DVDs, both of which have came out really well bar one thing. My question is when I have created chapters I end up with 1 chapter which I then have to select to bring up the rest. How can I do it so all the chapters appear when I insert the DVD??
Thanks in advance.

As you have just discovered, authoring a DVD is the weakest link in the VideoStudio chain. It's a fairly good all-around app, but, authoring is not a strength. I ran into this issue way back when I started using VS7. VS forces a two-step menu if you have chapters defined, so a single video on a DVD (like all my miniDV tapes), end up being one thumbnail for the video clip which has to be selected before you can see the chapter thumbnails. The only way around this is to make each chapter a separate video.
This is my biggest gripe with VideoStudio and many users have complained about this for years. Apparently, Ulead has no intention of changing this behavior as it exists in all subsequent versions (not sure about VS9 - but, I'll find out soon). I am now using a separate authoring application. Other video editors I have used (and continue to use) do not have this issue. I use VS for its great editing capabilities, but, I author the DVD outside of VideoStudio.

Well, that certainly is good news. I have ordered VS9 and should receive it on Monday. Frankly, this forced two-layer menu for a single video was my only major complaint wtih VideoStudio. I am curious to see how authoring in VS9 compares to the excellent stand-alone authoring app I am using. It's big drawback is that it only works with MPEG-2 files, so I have to do all the editing, transitions, titling, etc. in VS then render to MPEG-2 before authoring the DVD. However, it does have very flexible and powerful authoring capabilities. I'll probably continue to use both.GeorgeW wrote:VS9 allows you to bypass the Title Menu, so you could just have Chapter Menus if you want
