? about format in VSP
I have a DVD burnt from my TV (sport) for my husband & he wants it edited. It's in MPEG-2 audio Dolby digital 2 aspect ratio 4:3 (this is what shows when I look at info from disc) I can't get it to open in Video Studeo x2. After it's read 60% it just seems to go no further. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also please take into account I'm new at all this.
I'm in the Pal area with a wide screen TV. I'm using using Windows 7 Ultimate & have a very good video/sound card & plenty of memory. Hope this is the correct info you need.
Thanks Snowy

yes I have installed both patches but still no luck. The programme just stops reading after 61% then eventually when I try canceling it does nothing I have to actually press the Esc button & this just crashes or freezes the programme/ computer!!!!!!!!!!!!
& yes I did see the other post but I'm obviously not clued up as it didn't make any sense to me.
Sorry but I think I've now put in the info needed except for motherboard which I'm not yet confident in doing as per tut. Thanks for the help & I hope you can now give me more assistance. Snowy

Import dvd
Hi Snowy
When we use a DVD Recorder we have to finalise the disc in the recorder before we can read its contents on the pc, did you do this.?
There are a few ways to import the dvd to Video Studio.
Option 1¡K¡K¡K
place the disc in the drive.
From video studio, right click timeline and select Insert Digital Media
A select title window will open¡Xselect import
After Import Initialization the Import window shows.
The list on the left shows Titles and Chapter options.
Select all Titles there may be a delay in loading
Now press the Import button lower right
The files will be saved to the working folder.
Thumbnails placed in the timeline.
Option 2¡K¡K.
Copy the disc content to your hard drive.
The VIDEO_TS folder contains your files.
From Video Studio right click the timeline and select Insert Digital Media
Import from Folder browse for the Video_TS Folder.
A similar window will open as above.
Option 3 ¡K¡K¡K¡K..
Copy the disc content to your hard drive.
The VIDEO_TS folder contains your video files.
There are a few types here¡K..you need the VOB files or DVD Movie files.
Re-Name these files to use the extension .MPG
(Example from VTS_01_1.VOB ¡K to ¡K. VTS_01_1.MPG)
If you cannot see the file extension then¡K¡K...
Tools-Folder Options-View-Uncheck Hide Extensions for known file types
Now import the files as normal using Insert Video.

Trevor, thanks for your help ,the DVD was finalized & I did all you said, all I can think is the disc must have a problem with it because I get a message saying: Failed Report ID 0x8004090(2305).
I have managed to convert it via ConvertX but this of course means loss of quality & then more loss when re-converted at the end when I want to burn the edited file.
I put all my info in my profile area but I see it hasn't saved & I don't know why!
Cheers & many thanks for all your help

Hi Snowy
Were you able to copy the disc content to the pc.
The dvd contains a folder called VIDEO _TS
VOB files are limited to 1 Gb, so if the disc is full 4 .3 Gb then expect 4 or 5 Vob files.
Renaming these will allow you to import to VS.
If you have a corrupt file maybe only one is affected.
DVD Shrink
Is a free program that should convert your disc, maybe worth a try.

Hi Trevor, I copied the files & did the changes as you said but still no luck I've even gone & copied a different programme from my Panasonic recorder to make sure I've got a finalized disc & that wont open either get's to 61% and no further.
I'm starting to think it's the VSP programme & wonder if I should un-install & re-install? I've checked the DVD format it's MPEG-2 and this time it's only a 30 min show. Sorry but I don't know how to insert image example of what I see.
Sorry I'm not getting anywhere but I'm like an old dog with a bone & can't let it go till I've worked it out.
Also I have DVD Shrink but it doesn't seem to work either so you see I'm missing a very fundamental step somewhere.
Cheers & hope I can get to the bottom of my problem soon & make my Hubby happy with an edited Rugby game![/img]

This is a very basic answer to the above question, you could try and work your way through this more in depth article on wikipedia
DVD's you rent/buy from the shops are mostly in a format where you have a DVD Menu and can have chapters sort of like these:

These discs a READ ONLY.
To Import them into VideoStudio then you should Follow this guide
DVD-RAM is a read/write format and is used by "Set Top Boxes" - in other words DVD Recorders which are typically hooked up to a TV set and record the program onto the disc. This can later be erased and another program recorded in its place. These discs do not (normally) have menus like those above, but instead will have a sort of "Index" showing perhaps the recording date/time and duration. Depending upon how good the recorder is you might even be able to give each recorded program a name.

No I think the info that Panasonic only works with VSP if the programme is burnt to a DVD-R is correct because I tried another programme burnt to DVD+R & VSP didn't read the disc but the same programme burnt to DVD-R was read with no difficulty. So thanks to Shim's info I think it's a problem sorted.
Cheers Snowy

Test
I should hopefully receive a Panasonic dvd recorder next week which will (?) allow indexing dvd+r/rw content rather than finalised menus.
So shall test the unit with: DVD-RAM, DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW with and without disk Finalisations where applicable -/+.
Could be a keeper
