Not used VS 11, missed that version.
I posed the question regarding types having read the remarks to Max's HD camcorder.
Just reading the post doesn't make it clear, but like you i thought SD.

Can you check on the version you used before VS12 as I have an old SE version of MovieFactory 5.6 that came with my camera and the Import Dig media is on there!trevor andrew wrote:John

I have version 7 to 10 and the option to import dvd disc or VIDEO-TS folder is found here:-
File--Insert Media Files to Timeline--Insert DVD/DVD/VR¡K
Or by right clicking timeline
Now seems to be called Insert Digital Media¡K¡Kfor X2

Apologies, didn't realise until I had done those screenshots that you were on VS 11+ I thought you had VS 12. You will see from Trevor's posts that the path to import the VIDEO_TS folder is slightly different in previous versions of VS. Still doable though. Sorry for the confusion

Thanks Guys,
No need to apologize M65, I appreciate your taking the time. It is true that 11+ does not have that option to insert digital media under the file menu, but hopefully I can do it like Trevor pointed out and just point it to my Video_TS folder using the timeline "insert DVD/DVD The VOB files are in 720 x 480 so I must have just made an ordinary DVD out of them to work in my player since I don't have Bluray. In the future I will do both and will definetly save files in Bluray quality when doing new projects just in case I crash and burn the origional captures. Trevor to answer your question it is definetly standard definition as it has the Video_TS folder not BDMV
Cheers and Thanks,
Max

Howdy,
JFYI, I was able to bring in the VOB files from the timeline using DVD Import angle. Initially all the files were dumped just into a DVD folder and it wouldn't see them so I made a Video_TS folder inside the DVD folder and dropped the files into it. After that no problem all were brought in just fine. Also the screen capture from the Tools> menu works great for capturing a still of the Project as you see it on the screen and using the "Save as Still Image" option from the clip menu does distort it a bit so if you want the actual image you're looking at in the preview screen use the Tools> capture image angle Trevor spoke about earlier.
Thanks all.
Cheers,
Max

Capturing Still Pictures Pro X2
My Camcorder is a new Sony HDR-XR100 with an 80 gigabyte hard drive. I used Sony's software to download the video clips on to my computer and VideoStudio PRO X2 opened them. The aspect ration is 16:9 When I save a frame as a still image, its aspect ratio is 4:3. No black at the top and bottom. When I tell it to "Fit to Project" it stays the same. When go to Tools, the Save Frame As Image is NOT active. Properties says the file type of the video clips is NTSC-HDMV What can I do? I NEED to capture still images from my clips with 16:9 aspect ratio so I can put them into my projects.

image capture hd
Hi
First Start a new project¡K¡K¡K.
Then go to File ¡VProject Properties, make sure that these are set to 16:9
You can set this as default from the start / splash screen. If you do not see the start-up screen on start-up, go to File Preferences-show start up screen¡K
Insert a video file¡K¡K¡K¡K
Right click the video file- select properties, what are they?
Click the video file to select then Clip-Save as Still Image.
The image will be saved to your working folder, a thumbnail placed in the library, right click- thumbnail in library, select properties, what are the sizes of the image.?
Probably 1920 x 1080px
Does that work for you??????
If you need to capture the screen as seen, you will have to edit the project properties further, using the video files properties, use Mpeg 2 compression.
Then in project Playback mode, Tools-Save current frame as image.

Thank you, my problem is solved. I asked a friend, also in England, and he told me this.
Make the clip the frame is in active. (I suppose you only need to do this if what you want to capture is the first frame) Under the preview window, change the setting to "Project" rather than "Clip." Then use "Tools" to save the still image. The saved still image is 16:9 rather than 4:3. As long as "Clip" is what is active under the preview window, the Save as Still Image in Tools is not active. (Is in the instructions?)
Thank you very much. I'm one of those people who loved VS8. Even though I bought later versions, I stayed with VS8, because it worked, it was stable, and easy to use. The transition to hi def and PRO 2X means adapting to a lot of change.
