The first crossfade went from the first clip to black in ten frames (even though the crossfade was 1 second long) then the second crossfade brought it back up.
When I had only one crossfade it went to black then the second video popped up with no fade-in.
Or at least that's what I remember, it was several hours ago.
Crossfade timing?

Brain,
So I think your expectation of the crossfade is that you expect it to fade to black then fade into the next scene? Which is rather confusing because earlier you state that
So if you insert a black clip in between video A and B, and insert your crossfades as seen in Steve's image above, then your crossfades will be Video A and Black, then Black and Video B.
There's no "whim" involved here. If you want a simple crossfade, then get rid the the black color clip and only use Videos A and B.

But that's exactly what crossfade does! As Ken elucidated here, a crossfade is simply a fading out of video A while fading in video B.In the language I speak, cross-fade means fade out one clip as the other one fades in.... but that's not what it does here.

You say "When you had no black" followed by "on reaching black".Brain Champagne wrote:When I had no black, for some reason it didn't fade one down as it faded the other one up, it faded one down and then, upon reaching black, opened the next clip up starting at full brightness.
I'm confused. "Upon reaching black" says to me that you did have a black color clip in there

When I had just one clip crossfading into the other, one faded out. Then the other one just appeared without fading in.
And when I had black, it faded to black in ten frames and then remained black for 20 more frames... not what it was supposed to do.
Whatever the problem was, I just checked all my crossfades and they appear to be working properly now. Maybe it was a bug, maybe I thought I'd inserted a crossfade and it was just a fade out (although I don't think I made this mistake).
thanks,
Shaun Eli
