Hi 'tis Delboy in trouble again,
I have encountered a new issue which may be related to a Windows update but has me mistified.
If I try to open a file from the listed *.vsp on the file menu the file loads up OK.
If I have no program running and I click on a VSP file in a windows explorer folder then the association causes VSP-ProX2 to run and load the file all OK.
If however I use the open file command then the program crashes every time without fail., and sends an error report, this now would seem to be connected to the relink problem in my earlier posting?
Even if I try to open an image with the load image folder icon the same crash now happens.
I have tried to check if it is a computer issue, but Corel Draw, Corel Painter, Paint shop pro all run and load files OK as do other applications.
I have tried a reinstall/repair with no effect.
Do Corel get error reports from Microsoft that link up these issues?
Do I just uninstall completely and reinstall and try again, any other ideas.

Hi Derek
Now with a name like Delboy I ought to ask where you bought the program.
There are SE versions that don¡¦t perform as well as the pukka ones.
Ok things to try:-
Create a new projects using the Video Studio sample clips.
Do these open ok, if yes then the problem may be the projects content.
Progressive Jpegs have caused me some problems, I now make sure they are Baseline.
Right click a clip in the library and select properties should give you details.
Direct X
There is an update to Direct X that does cure some editing problems, but the crash may be a different matter.
There is a link at the top of this forum, download the file, extract its content and run the extracted files.
If that don¡¦t work I think I would do a clean install, or manual un-install, there are details on the Corel knowledge data base. Search for uninstall.

VS pro X2 "opening file" crash issue
Hi Trevor (definitely not Trigger then
)
Amazon was actually the supplier.
Everything was working ok until yesterday when I noticed the restore link issue (see earlier post) Today I was going to work on trying to re-create my slideshow without alias errors. I can happily open any of the VSP files I have created if they are either already on the rcent file list inside the VS program File menu or if I click on them (with no VS running) in a normal explorer file listing window.
It is only if I use the open command this error happens.
I have even rolled my computerer back 48 hours to see if any updates had caused the problem, no joy. The files themselves JPEd and VSP are all fine.
I think I am only left with a manual uninstall and re-install.
Will keep you posted.
Delboy (or Derek if that sounds more credible

Hi Trev I am sure it is file related. But thanks for your thoughts.
I have installed "How to add the Print Directory feature for folders in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321379"
This seems to have affected the way that VS sees files when opening them.
You will need to read this carefully as its a bit deep:-
If there is an *.mpg file in the directory or sub directory of where the required .VSP (to open) resides and that is beneath (ie in the tree of) the XP's nominated "My Videos" directory then the problem occurs. If the files are all move out of the My Videos branch then the fault does not happen. I am sure that during one crash I did see the start-up screen of WIN DVD 9 pop up briefly. I think the sytem tries to play the mpg whilst the file is being opened by VS.
The My videos file has a special status relating to video content that may be the cause, aggrivated by the extra option now in directory access.
This may be getting too deep for others to comment on now, but it seems I have a work around.
best regards Delboy

My suspicion is that you have created a project and saved it - thus you have a "VSP" file. You have then deleted or moved the original material you used to create that "VSP" file - the videos, slides, perhaps even sound clips.
Now you cannot open that "VSP" file.
If so please click here.

Hi Delboy
Mostly I open my VSP¡¦s from Video Studio rather from Windows Explorer, with not using that route I don¡¦t experience the problem.
There is a quick launch as such, four recently used projects are listed in File, (towards the bottom)
I had some problems with crashes for VS 10 and X2 relating to Adobe Reader.
This turned out to be after update to Adobe Reader version 9
As a workround, Opening the projects from the quick launch seemed to stop the crashes.
Reverting to Version 8 cured the problem, now I run Adobe Reader V8
But if your able to open the projects without problems, stick to the one that works.
I know it would be nice to identify the problem.
