No Burn Screen V.S. 11.5 Plus

Post by rckowal »

Although V.S. is going through capture & edit OK, it will not allow me to create a DVD because I can't get to a "Burn Screen". I've already tried searching the forum, reading the user manual, & uninstall/reinstall. After spending almost a week trying everything I can think of, I'm here looking for help.

If I use the Create DVD work flow in "Edit", I load an MPEG file > proceed to "Menus" > "Preview" - all is OK. But when I click "Next", nothing happens. I never get to a "Burn" screen.

If I use the DV to DVD work flow, I can capture OK but when I get to the "Scan" screen I can "Scan" OK, But when I click "Next" I get a pop up that says "Please scan the tape before going to the next step". I never get to a "Burn" screen.

Background Information: Some time ago (possibly 2008), I first installed V.S. 11.5 Plus in a new Dell PC with Windows Media Center Edition O.S. At that time, it worked as expected. I was able to capture, edit & burn to DVD without issue. Until now, I have not had a reason to use V.S. so it sat installed, but idle.

I am now trying to use V.S. again, but have been unable to enjoy the success that I had when first installed. Since then, my PC has undergone many changes due to Windows updates, new software being installed, etc. Therefore, there is no way to point to anything specific that could have caused V.S. to quit working normally as it did in the past.

What's wrong here & how can I fix it?
Best regards, Richard

Hi

There have been problems regarding the ¡¥Next¡¦ button being visible.
Not sure which versions of VS are affected, (I do not use VS 11)
Do a search of the forum for these posts.
Although I do not think there was a definite solution.(hope i'm wrong)

Have you manually updated Direct X, there is a link at the top of this forum.

In the meantime:-
Using Alt + N will allow you to navigate to the next window.
Allowing you to burn your dvd.

And your operating system is --> Image ????

If as I suspect it is Windows 7 then you need to install the latest update patches

Ho Trevor, Thanks for the reply.

Although the next button is visible when I'm doing this, it doesn't do anything. I also tried alt+N but that didn't work either.

I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything that discusses my specific issue. That's why I came here to seek help.

I'll have to update Direct-X. Perhaps I have an out dated version.

Cheers! Perhaps this is a dated phrase now. It's been more than 10 years since I was last in England (grin).

Hi sjj1805, Thanks for replying. O.S. is Windows XP Pro. Any other ideas? How about the Direct X up date suggested by Trevor?

Hi

For X2 Video Studio 12 the direct X update is a must.
It defiantly fixes problems similar to the one you are experiencing.

Whether it sorts problems for VS 11 I don¡¦t know.

There is a link at the top of this forum, it¡¦s a manual download, extract files and install.

Seems to cure things that the Windows Auto Update doesn¡¦t.

Trevor,

I updated Direct X to August 2009 but it didn't fix the problem.

Do you know if the installation of other video processing/burning software such as Nero Vision, Windows Movie Maker, etc. might cause this sort of mis-behavior with V.S. 11? I also have playback software like RealPlay, VLC Player, Windows Media Player, etc. on this PC.

I have quite literally all of the programs you mention on my video editing computer with VS, and VS works normally ... The only known conflicts which cause problems in burning a DVD in VS are Nero InCD and an equivalent program in the Roxio suite whose name I do not recall. They are programs which allow you to send files to the burner, which build up until there are enough to warrant burning, and they tend to deny access to the burner to other programs such as VS. However, they do not remove access to the burning pages of VS -- just the final step of allowing the burn to take place. InCD, however, has not been installed by default since version 6...

I had a similar problem about a year ago. I updated DirectX AND THEN reinstalled VS and that fixed my problem.

I have updated my profile twice within the past two days. I've even gotten a reply stating that my profile was updated. I don't know of anything else that I've missed or that can be done.
