WIN 7 64 bit OS

Post by MIKEL »

This is a bit off-topic but I am sure the answer lies here.
I have a Panasonic SDC HS300 camera and the software for downloading the video that came with the camera HD Writer 1.0 does not like the 64 bit OS I am using. What would be the best alternative.
Looking through the posts I see that HDV Split may be a good solution if it works with 64 bit systems.

Thanks Mike
Many thanks

I don't use 64 bit, so you will need to wait for someone else to comment on that aspect. However, I don't HDVSplit -- which I *do* use with my own Canon HV20 *HDV* camera -- is going to work for you for the simple reason that your camera is AVCHD and not HDV!!

Perhaps using Compatibility Mode would help?

I don't have a HD camera so I'm not sure of the transfer differences, but WinDV works fine with Win7 64 bit.

I would look for a forum about your camera to ask this question... Al

Thanks - I saw that HDVsplit was not for me after reading about it on the Web. I also found that the system recognises the camera as a USB device and I can download the files without any problem.

I'll also look at WinDV as maybe the GUI is smarter.

BTW since both my wife and I need to edit our own projects we have to replace the second very under-powered machine with something that would be a joy to use without being a waste of money. The choice of available hardware is simply amazing-and confusing. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. How much memory is really viable - some people have 12GB - more than they had for the Appollo project.

Mikel,

Just look at my specs and pick the components you can afford to improve on...

AVCHD is still choppy on my PC but on test HDV files it's pretty smooth..

My plans are for more RAM and a faster CPU

8 gig RAM

and the i5 core minimum...but for me that would require a new MB as well.
