unworkable output with HD DVD burning

Post by falcione »

I read a few posts on this topic but I am not sure what the answer is. I have tried to burn a project (MF6+, HD DVD) on both 4.7G RW and 8.5G +R DL and both times the DVD doesnt play on any of my household DVD players. When I do normal DVD project (not HD), it works fine. I tried lowering the video rate to 8000 instead of the default 18000 and no change in result. Is the HD DVD option only a good option if you have new playback equipment? Anything else I should try?

Right! Regular DVD players cannot play HD... You need a Blu-Ray player that happens to play these "Hybrid DVDs". This kind of DVD is non-standard. It does not meet the specifications for DVD or Blu Ray (or for the now-obsolete HD-DVD format).

Actually, the HD-DVD option only works if you have HD-DVD playback equipment i.e. a Toshiba HD-DVD player or an LG BH200 (plays HD-DVDs but also BD and standard DVD).

I have all of these, and can attest that MF6+ (w/HD Pack) output works, though I have only used ImgBurn to make my DVD+R DL discs (by outputting from MF as folder structure, then dragging same to ImgBurn for burning). Then you need to make sure that you're burning as "DVD+R" booktype and not DVD-ROM iirc (For HDDVD).

AVCHD

Hi
If you have a Blu-ray player try burning a AVCHD on to DVD-R you can get about 35 minutes of HD on to a disc and looks very good
Note this disc will only play on a Blu-ray player
