I am authoring an NTSC DVD using one MPEG2 file (about 4GB) as a single title and then dividing the title up into chapters. I am using the pre-defined thumbnails. I notice several performance issues:
1) When selecting the appropriate frame of the video to display as the thumbnail for that chapter, it takes magnitudes of time longer to select frames in chapters towards the end of the video. That is, Chapter 1 selection is very fast, but Chpater 10 is very slow.
2) The "preview" option takes about 10 - 15 minutes to start.
All else seems to work OK. Any ideas?

It sounds like you might have a corrupted MPEG-2 file. Sometimes this can be fixed... Sometimes you can live with it, and it's just an inconvenience... Sometimes Movie Factory will crash... Sometimes, you can end-up with a DVD that has "lip sync" problems, or other weird problems.
You can try re-encoding it with a program like SUPER (FREE), or with a video editor (i.e. Corel Video Studio).
Or, Womble ($99 USD after free trial) and VideoReDo.com ($50 - $75 USD after free trial) both have MPEG repair tools that can repair some MPEGs without re-encoding.
