Video studio ultimate and pro sound device problem

Post by jcamper »

Hi I have video studio ultimate installed and can capture video through my Easy Capture device no problem but when I go to capture options my Realtek HD sound device is not present, and the capture audio is un-selectable, only pc audio is visable.
I have ulead video studio 10 SE also and my devices in that program are all working perfectly.
I can capture sound through the Easy Capture device but I purposly split them due to the workload through the one device.
I had an argument over the phone with a support person due to his lack of interest and have asked for my money back and since got the software from PC World for £20 cheaper.
If anyone has any ideas I would be greatful to hear from them.

Thanks in advance.
jcamper.

Just for this reason it is recommended that when using a capture device you use the software that came with it to do the capture, then import the clips into VS for editing.

Just to explain a little more, quite a few manufacturers of hardware capture devices provide either their own proprietary software for captures with the device, or else provide a 'special edition' (SE) version of other editing software -- in this case VS 10SE -- which they have tweaked to work with their hardware. But for proprietary/profit motives, they refuse to share the secrets -- or at least code -- associated with their hardware with software manufacturers like Corel. So while there may be a tweaked version of VS which works with their device, it is usually the case that normal versions of the same product, including later versions, will not work properly. So that is why we recommend people use the software which came with the device for capture and then simply open the captured files in X2 for editing/authoring.

And don't get too hung up about "having" to use X2 for everything. Many of us here use a wide variety of third party software for various aspects of the editing and authoring process. I personally use a little freeware program called WinDV to capture from my mini DV camera; another small program called HDVSplit to capture my HDV video; Xara 3D or BluffTitler to make my titles; CanopusFX for some of my transitions; and Movie Factory 7 for authoring (and sometimes Nero...)
