DVD Compliant MPEG-2 File Confirmations

Post by montgal55 »

Hello Everyone:

Just out of curiousity . . . :?:

Is there a program that exists which can actually tell you that a file is a DVD-Compliant MPEG2 file? (i.e., "This file is DVD Compliant MPEG2").

I do know that MediaInfo will tell you the specifics of a particular file. But you really can't pin it down as to whether is what you want or not.

I, myself, just like to know what exactly I have.

Probably not, it is more of a self-education requirement of video editing, and producing DVDs and now Blu-Ray discs. The main requirements are, Frame Sizes/Resolutions, Bitrates (fps), and then total Data Rates (kbps). If you know what those are, then you can look at your projects and see if any of those are falling outside those standards.

I don't think that this process should ever be made such a simple process that it monkey can do it..;) With the wealth of information at our fingertips, why shouldn't we make good use of it..;)

DVD Compliant MPEG-2 File Confirmations

Post by montgal55 »

Hello Ron P.

Thank you very much for you input.

You're right when you say it is more of a self-education learning process. Utilitizing MediaCoder to create DVD-compliant MPEG2 files for DVDMF7, I am actually memorizing exactly what parameters need to be included for DVD compliancy (with converting so many files :D ).

There is one DVD authoring program that actually tells you whether files are DVD-compliant or not when imported by displaying warning-error messages letting the author know what you thought was compliant is not really compliant at all. It also lets you know what's wrong with the file that is not compliant. I found that a handy tool within the program.

I am hoping the programmers at Corel (in future upgrades - not necessarily in the next upgrade) would include an extra step where it would let you know whether the files are DVD-compliant MPEG2 or not.

Again, thank you.
