How can I create the HD 720P video file with Video Studio X2

Post by ken58 »

I was trying Video Studio X2 Demo.
I imported a short video clip HD (1280x720) 720P.

The maximum standard frame size is 720x480 in the Project Option of the Project Properties.
I can¡¦t activate the User-defined frame size.
Does the User-defined frame size work ?

How can I get the Project Properties with 720P resolution?

Thank you

Do you mean when you go to Share>Create Video File you can't choose Custom (at the bottom of the list)?

I can choose the Custom.
But I can¡¦t choose the User-defined frame size in the Options/General/Custom.

If you're making a regular DVD there are very strict requirements, and 720x480 is standard for NTSC DVDs. (720x576 is standard for PAL DVDs.)

If you're making a Blu-Ray disc or a "computer file", you should not have these limitations.

In your first post you wanted the Project Properties size option but when Jeff suggested that you meant the Create Video file option you agreed this is what you wanted. Are you perhaps a little confused. To choose the Project properties options Go to "File" Project Properties, click Edit then the Compression Tab. In Media type drop down box choose MPRG-2 and then the General Tab. You will then be able to choose 1280 x 720 from the frame size drop down box. When you get to the Share - Create Video File section choose "Same as Project Settings" and that will save your file to the 1280 x 720 frame size that you want.

I did both ways. Jeff¡¦s suggestion, and the way you just mentioned.

I can¡¦t chose the "User-defined frame size" in the both cases from the frame size box.

When settng your project properties did you get to this screen? You need to first go to the Compression Tab and change the Media Tyoe to MPEG-2 then hit the "General" tab. I know the screenshot shows the 720 x 576 option but you need the one below that 1280 x 720

All this also begs the question of what video format we are talking about: HD 720p, yes, but 'normally' that implies we are talking about AVCHD 720p which is of course mpeg-4 and rather takes the wind out of the sails of John's suggestion of using mpeg-2 as the basis of setting project properties.

I think that the simple answer is that VS is not capable of making a 720p AVCHD as output... but I would love to be proven wrong!

Thank you John,

It works.
While I couldn¡¦t choose the "User-defined frame size", I could get the 1280x720 after choosing the media type MPEG-2 as you mentioned.

Thanks again

I was just trying to get a computer file.
Now, I can get the 1280x720 with the MPEG-2.

We can¡¦t choose "User-defined frame size" ?

How can I get reasonable picture quality?

Post by ken58 »

I created the video with the ¡§Same as Project¡¨ setting.
It was just a test. I did not edit the video at all.
Viewed with the Project Play back.

The picture quality of the output video is very poor.
It was fluctuating.
Am I doing something wrong ?
How can I get reasonable picture quality?

Original Video

Format: Photo JPEG
Data rate : 22.48 mbit/sec
FPS : 30, 1280 x 720
Short video clip about 1 minute

The property setting of Video Studio:

NTSC non-drop frame (30 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 30 fps
Lower Field First
(MPEG-2), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 22.48 mbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

Another question.
What program do I need to see the Mpeg2 video ?
I could not open it with Windows Media Player.
I could open it with RealPlayer, but couldn¡¦t play the movie.

Ken58 and anyone else that likes to use the "quote" function of the web boards.....

When you're typing in your post/reply, at the bottom there are 4 options with checkboxes:
  • Disable BBCode in this post. Read the first word again, it is Disable. So when you are going to use any BBCode please DO NOT CHECK the box beside this option.
  • Disable Smiles in this post. Again this is not to enable them, but to Disable them. Do not check this if you want to see smilies.
  • Attach signature (signatures can be changed in profile). This is to attach a signature block (mine is an image of all my programs) below each post.
  • Notify me when a reply is posted. This does not always work, due to the antiquated phpBB2 the web board uses. Check if you desire.
I wish that phpBB would change the wording to Enable so that it is not so easily confused. Not upset, just trying to help clarify the using of those boxes..;)

I've edited Ken58's posts above, removing the check beside the box. I've also added this to the Read This First... sticky at the top of the forum..

Your 22.48 mbps places this video in the High Definition league. For that you need a High Definition player such as WinDVD (Blue Ray). Standard Definition Video (the stuff that plays in Windows Media Player) is measured in kbps
