Rendering AVCHD produces 'frame is unreadable' error

Post by Aeropars »

Hello Guys,

I have a Panasonic SD9 HD video recorder and have sucessfully rendered small amounts of footage before using VS x2 Pro.

I have completed a project of about 50 minutes and rendered using a smart render initially. This produces stutter at transitions which I read was a knwon bug and the way round this was to not smart render.

I did this but it failed with an error saying frame is unreadable with a frame number preceeding the error.

I'm an expert in computers but a little unsure when it comes to video editing. does anyone have any opinions as to whats causing this, and more importantly, how to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. As an expert in computers I'm sure you will need no explanation as to why following the "Please read this before posting" thread is so important. It is at the top of this forum but here's the link:

Hi,

Not sure how that relates to being an expert in computers but thats otu of scope here i'd say!

I've updated the information as best I can remember without looking as I'm not in front of the computer at the moment.

In the recommended format here's the details again:

Describe your problem: When rendering AVCHD video (also outputting to AVCHD 1080) without smart render I recieve and error sayin 'frame is unreadable' and the rendering then stops. If I use smart render the file is created sucessfully (albeit with the stutters)

Properties of your source files, including video, audio, image files (format, file size, where did you get it?): AVCHD mutliple file sizes from a Panasonic SD9 HD camcorder

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: N/A

Project Properties (important): Default properties (i havent changed anything here so assume they are the same for any new project)

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): AVCHD file

Output Properties (cogwheel in lower left of burn screen): Default AVCHD properties

PAL or NTSC: PAL

Error Codes (if any): awaiting the render to error again to get this but i dont beleive there was a code.

I've just been informed that the render I kicked off this morning has now crashed the program all together.

Have you installed the latest patch for VS12 and the latest DirectX both available from the top two posts on this Forum? If not can I suggest you do so as they seem to have solved numerous problems in the recent past.

Hello again,

I've upgraded the direct X and reapplied the service pack but the same thing happens.

I checked the event log and have the following error in the application log when VS crashed.

Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 10.0.0.0, time stamp 0x48c12aa3, faulting module HerDocdll.dll, version 1.0.0.1, time stamp 0x48be6977, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00091031, process id 0x1010, application start time 0x01ca8ecbb958cd31.

Event ID 1000

Does anyoen have any other ideas? I'm desperate to get this video rendered having spent so long working on it.

The above error shows VideoStudio 10, not VS X2 Pro. If it were VS X2 Pro, it should reflect 12 in the version. For VS10 to work with even Vista, you need to apply the Vista Patch to it.

If you're launching it from the desktop shortcut, check the path for the shortcut to make sure it is not going to an installation of VS 10. Right-click on the shortcut, select Properties.

Hi Aeropars
I assumed from your first post that you were using VS x2 Pro? I'm not so sure that VS10 works with Vista, perhaps it does, I only have VS x2 Pro installed!

I've reinstalled and the file information says Product Version is 12 but the file version is 10. So the file version is probably the compile version where the product is actually correct.

Any other ideas seeing as the software looks to be correct?

One more thing I should mention is that the HD video clips are stored on a USB external hard drive. Could the access speed be causing this to cause a problem? I can't see it myself as the render gets to 96% every time and crashes at the same point.

MY working folder is set to the C drive and so are the temp file locations. There's over 100gb free on the local C drive as well.

I tried moving the files to the C driver but when i tried importing them I get an error saying "no storage to save BB" which kept reappearing.

Instead of trying to transfer a file from the external to the C:, why not try capturing a clip directly from your cam to your C:? Don't know if it will work, but worth a simple try.

Right, a little progress with the move. I renamed the VS folder in the appdata folder to reset the library. I'm now importing the clips back in from the C drive which seem to be working correctly. I assume the library files were not right or corrupt.

What happens now? Will the project file pick up the file names in the library and be done with it? I had the clips originally in a seperate folder in the clip manager for organisational purposes. I'm slightly worried that the project file wont pick up the clips now.

Its all backed up so i can rever back to how it was if neccessary but then i cant render the film correctly.

Sorry for all the posts, I keep finding different things which might have some bearing on the problem.

One of the clips, at the point of the crash, has no sound during the preview when editing. When the crash happens it leaves the file in place so i can see where it got to. It gets to the end of this file and the crashes. Again the rendered video has no sound at this point but you can hear the music fade in as i wanted from a music file on the edit. As the clip comes to an end, so does the file. I had the same problem on a different computer and removed this file but it still crashed on the render. I havent tried it on this computer.

Also, as I thought the files cannot be found if I open the project file. It asks to relink but then crashes again, probably because i've confused the hell out of it.
