VS9 - problem rendering

Post by Trikie »

Despite having had this programme for several years I am only just getting round to using it.

Trying to create a video file the process stops short with a message that there is not enough space "select another drive or reduce the size of the project"

Using XP wirh SP2 I use an external 700GB LaCie hard disk for video work. It is NTFS and not partioned. I have just 4 folders, one being for the video. This folder uses 38.0GB, with the others I have 610GB free space.

Putting this query to a general PC forum I've had the suggestion
Check the Program Preferences for Storage where and how much. The Video Program will have set all the Properties as Default, until you change them after you install the Program

I can't find any reference to this in the manual is it likely to be the answer and if so how do I access the menu that alters it?

You can certainly tell VS (including VS9) what it can use as the working directory in File > Preferences. By default it is in your C:\ ...\My Documents\Ulead Systems folder, so you would need to designate your external drive there. Note that in the burning module (which opens when you select Share > Create Disc), there is a separate Preferences for the temporary files created during the burning process. By default, it is the same as the main working folder, so you may want to change that one too.

But I don't recall ever seeing VS have the ability to specify how much space it can use... With video editing, that is rather like asking how long a piece of string is, since the numbers can vary enormously -- and I mean enormously! -- depending on the format of the video being used.
