Video Studio X2 Capture

Post by georgepag »

I just downloaded Video Studio X2. I have an ISO video file created with another tool that I want to bring into Video Studio for editing. Is there a way to do this? I also have the digital video content in WMV, MPG, AVI, and DMSM (videowave production) formats. Is it possible to open these in Video Studio for editing? Or do I have to do the original capturing from my digital camcorder again using Video Studio?

Thanks

And, I meant to ask, if it is possible, how? I can't find a way to do it using the capture menu. Thanks

Hi George! Welcome to the forums! And that was quick -- I remember approving your application just this morning!! :lol:

Unfortunately, you won't be able to import an ISO file directly. The only way I can think of for doing it would be similar to the way you have to play an ISO on a software DVD player. And that would be to mount in on a virtual drive with a program such as PowerISO or WinISO. The in VS, you would go to the Capture page and use the 'Insert Digital Media' option, navigate to the virtual drive, and follow the prompts. If the ISO is of a video DVD, then of course you will find a structure on the virtual drive of a Video_TS folder. The video files would be the .vob files in that.

It could be better to use the digital video clips you have separately. VS should have no trouble with them and you simply right click in either the timeline or library window and choose Insert Video, then navigate to wherever those files are stored.

You would do the same thing with WMV and AVI files, but just be aware that VS often encounters problems with WMV (which is in any case usually very slow to edit). And AVI is simply a wrapper format which literally hundreds of video formats use as their extension. The more compressed mpeg-4 types like DivX or XVid can be particularly problematic. It could thus be better, if using those video formats, to first convert them to mpeg-2 using a conversion program like the freeware SUPER program (www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html ) But if they have already been converted to a video DVD in your ISO file, then definitely use those imports instead.

As for you DMSM file(s) there is nothing you can do with them except in VideoWave... They are not video files but simple project text files which are something along the lines of a road map, telling VideoWave what video is included in the project, where it is located on your computer, and what editing has been done to it. They are in that sense equivalent to Video Studio's VSP files. And while you can insert a VSP file into the VS timeline and treat it in many ways as a video file, the same does not apply to project files from third party programs.

VideoStudio Pro x2; Unable to Capture DV Video

Post by dlh.moore »

Hi everyone;

I'm David. I recently downloaded the Video Studio 12 trial "VS Pro x2", and am having trouble capturing video from my Canon MD160 (PAL) DV Camcorder (with tape).
The device is connected via a DV cable and an IEEE 1394 card.

The problem is that VS Pro x2 doesn't seem to recognise it. When I plug in the MD160, Windows recognises it and I have been able to capture video using Windows Movie Maker. But when I open VS Pro x2 and go to "Capture Video" or "DV Quick Scan", the "Source" or "Device" menu is grey/inactive and I can't see or select my MD160.

The MD160 is set in playback mode and as I said the Windows Movie Maker recognises it and seems to work ok. I've tried the VS Help Menu but haven't been able to find a solution.

Does anyone know why this might be happening and if there's anything I can do to fix it?

Thanks kindly.

Hi David -- I have just posted a longish answer to this same question in the other post you made. Please don't hijack someone else's thread by adding a largely unrelated question of your own. :roll: This thread we are in now does not relate to capture via firewire from a DV camera. I'd be grateful if you kept to your other thread. That way no one gets confused.
