Before you convert your M2TS files why not just import them straight into Video Sudio. That's what I do and I have had none of the problems of editing. My camera is a Canon so the codec used might be different to yours but it is well worth a try to import direct. Saves keep converting.steve_e wrote:lol - glad it wasn't just me. I spent some time on the eright site looping around various pages this afternoon before stumbling upon the correct link!
Mind you, starting up the software instigates a whole new heap of questions...

Thanks for the suggestion John. I tried importing straight from the camcorder (and also just used the files I'd previously downloaded using the Panasonic software).
But I think my PC is struggling (as previously suggested might happen) with AVCHD files. I've now used Belarc Adviser to remind me what I put together (some four years ago now - time is passing quickly for me these days!!), and the system is now a little out of date (1.87 GHZ core2duo - I've now put the PC details into my profile).
So probably the first thing to do is bring the computer up to date. I think I can just update the processor first of all and see how that goes. Any other suggestions for priority improvement would be appreciated. From what I've read XP Pro doesn't really make use of graphics processor power as well as it should for video work?
But I did make a little video yesterday which I was very pleased with, just using a couple of clips and a music soundtrack. Attempted to output to DVD and although it totally refused to burn it put a completed video into a 'Working files' folder which I copied to a datastick and which played very successfully via the USB port of my 40" Samsung TV. So that's a start!
