AVCHD causes crashes

Post by galla47 »

Hello,

All of the sudden VS X2 v12 crashes when I try to play AVCHD videos. This can be videos from my camera, or AVCHD videos that I careated using VS.

Basically, when I press play, I get the "spinning circle" in windows 7, and the program goes unresponsive.

This started a couple days ago, and I had used VS in the past on these files with no problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Kevin

Not sure what you mean when you say you tried to play AVCHD videos on Video Studio. VS is an editor not a player. Have you tried WinDVD?

Yes, but when you edit, you need to play to see what it looks like. That is what I am talking about.

Also, I can play them if I insert them into the project and then play project, but if "clip" is selected, it crashes.

It sounds like one of your clips is corrupt. Does VS always crash at the same place. If so check to see what is there at the crash point. Is there a filter applied to that partcular clip? If so remove the filter and see if that is what is causing the crash. Have you got High Quality Playback selected? If so this takes some time to prepare the preview. Have you got "Smart Render" checked? This can also take some time to prepare the temp files.

It crashes on every AVCHD clip, both those that have smart proxy files and those that don't.

It's hard to help you because you have not provided enough details. Explain how these files were created, from what camera, what your pc configuration is (Operating System, cpu, and main memory), whether Directx has been upgraded in your pc, etc. Do the files play fine in another player outside VS, like Windows Media Player

I thought I had mentioned that I was able to play them in the past, and yes they do play in windows media player.

Relevant system information is in my profile... Though I don't think my directx version is there.

I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling VS, and that seems to have solved my problem. Guess I'll never know what the root cause was.
