Why Applications Crash After Win XP SP2

Post by keenart »

KB 886264 Titled: Programs that may experience a change in behavior after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;886264

Microsoft stated recently in another KB that is must maintain the operation of its OS at all costs, especially pertaining to Security threats. As a result the Manner in which an application may request time from the CPU and Memory Threads has been significantly changed to address those Security issues. The Windows OS will Kill any errant device or application to maintain a stable Operating System.

Graphic applications and some device drivers try to capture all of the CPU time and as much Memory as it can get its software on, and not relenquish any of the unused time or memory, or make availabe after use any unused time or memory. Meaning it continues to hog resources.

Also, XP now uses encoding of software and hardware to CPU to insure that Security threats are trapped, preventing the most errant of programs, Malware. Which can Kill any application not able or meeting standards even if harmless

It isn't all Uleads Fault!!

That's true, it happens with a lot of other programs too.

If you're going to install SP2, uninstall any major programs you have on your system first, especially animation/photo/video editors. THen reinstall them after SP2 is on. If they are installed after SP2 then SP2 doesn't react so badly to them and they can normally get along.

So give peace a chance!
