x2 unable to burn disc - next button problem unresolved

Post by Damnome »

Hi I am unable to burn to disc and have searched but been unable to find the answer to help me.
I am using Windows 7 32 bit on a Dell XPS 420 Q6600 3GB ram.
My next button does not work and I have tried things mentioned in other posts and it still does nothing when I click it so I am hoping someone can please help me out.

I installed X2 Pro ultimate, registered online and installed service patch 1 from corel website. This made it change from version 12.0.96.0 to 12.0.96.1 I then installed the windows 7 patch and updated my Direct x.

I am unable to burn to disc because my next button does nothing when I click it when I go to share - create disc. I can get as far as the menu then nothing happens when I click next. Nothing happens when I press Alt+N also.

I have seen others suggest update to Direct X will solve but it has not in my case. I have Direct X 11
I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still the problem persists.

I can use the program and save a video file and burn using convertxtodvd but not with X2?

I have noticed when I install the win7 patch my about information (serial number and version) has gone and it just says VideoStudio 12?

I know this has been asked before but I am really stuck as I just cannot burn to disc using the menu.
I have tried my imported files and just the sample video but have no luck.

This is a new PC so there should be nothing on it that would conflict with the program but if anyone has a solution it would make my 2010!

Happy new year to you all

I had the same issue, but I am running Win7 64-bit. I don't know if that will matter, but this is how I fixed my problem. You may have already done this route, but it's worth giving my two cents in case there may be any deviation.
1. Installed X2
2. Patched SP1
3. Patched SP2
4. Updated to Aug 2009 DirectX.

That's the way I have tried it too... but still clicking on next does nothing.
I try the update fir directX but it tells me i have the most up to date version - Direct X 11.
Also when I look at the version abter SP2 Win7 update my serial number and version are not displayed and I just have VideoStudio 12 displayed.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times and I am gutted I cannot get it to burn a disc.

It seems that X2 does not really care much about DirectX 11 in Win7. Before I updated to the Aug 2009 DirectX (which I believe 9.0c and previous versions), X2 with SP1 and SP2 patch still had GUI issues. Only when I updated to the Aug 2009 DirectX is when everything seems to work fine.

Though the DVD burn feature works, I still have 50% confidence on using this feature on X2. It has failed occassionally (I would say 20% of the time) and sometimes, the burn marks on the DVD seems to be uneven - not the smooth consistent pattern. I know that it's not my DVD burner because, Nero works like a champ with 0% failed burned to date and I have been using it for many years with the same DVD burner (HP 1070d).

I just create an ISO instead of the burn-to-DVD option, and use Nero to burn the ISO image. I never had this problem with VS11 and 9. Though, I had VS11 and V9 running on XP and worked perfectly.

It seems that there's still quite an amount of bugs with Win7 and X2 that Corel hasn't fixed or won't plan on fixing??? Maybe VS 13 or is it the end? Hopefully not. Sorry if I'm not much of a help.

Just as a footnote, in looking at the small print on both the August 2009 DirectX update, and its September follow-up, Windows 7 is included as a supported operating system. This is somewhat anomalous since Windows 7 uses the new DirectX 10, while the update is said to be for DirectX 9.0c and earlier versions.

So I would deduce that the elements of earlier versions included in DirectX 10 are what might be updated. In any case, I have applied that update to my one computer on which I have Windows 7 and X2 installed, with no apparent negative effect on any other programs on the computer... And my DirectX is still version 10, though some elements of it certainly appear to have been updated during the installation process...

So it seems I am stuck for a solution because I have DirectX 11 on my computer...

As I am able to save a video file and burn it outside X2 is there anyway to use the menu options and save them with the video file?

I cannot use them at present because when I select them and press next nothing happens but if I could use them another way and save them then I could 'make do' for now.

Thanks very much to all that are trying to help me

Sorry... I must have been going feeble minded there... Windows 7 of course uses DirectX 11 -- it was Vista which used 10. But whichever, the Microsoft small print still includes Windows 7 as a suitable operating system, and so DirectX 11 must also be updatable as well...

But no, if that does not change things for you, then you will not be able to use the menu part of the system as that is linked to the overall authoring stage which includes burning or creating a final ISO file of DVD Folder... And if you can't press Next or otherwise get to the final burning page, there is little you can do apart from what you already are doing...

Where did you X2 come from, a physical disc or download? If download, maybe it was corrupt. Worth asking Corel for another... (just grasping at staws).

No I bought it from Amazon for 36.00 pounds just before Xmas.
I was using VS10 on my XP machine but bought this much faster WIN7 machine to use X2 having seen Corel had released a patch that made it Win7 compliant!

X2 runs much faster on my new PC and I really like it but not being able to burn discs ruins it for me

Do you have any other DVD authoring programs? If so why not use it? It's very common for several members to use several programs in their workflow. I'll use a freebie program called WinDV to capture with, VS or MSP8 to edit, and DVD MF to author and burn my DVDs. Some use Nero to author and burn DVDs.

So if you like the editing capabilities of VS, use it for that, create a video file from your project, then insert that into your DVD authoring program. No need to let this completely ruin things for you..;)

He's probably spent a lot of time creating menus and such for his DVD project that he'd have to do over with another program. He paid good money for VS12. Why should he not expect it to work as advertised?

Yes I agree that it should work as advertised, however one problem he has at collecting, or getting Corel to do anything, is that he purchased it through a third-party vendor, Amazon. Corel doesn't know if it is a used, re-sold copy, and if it has been tampered with.

Others have reported the same or similar problems, and after installing the patch for Win7, the problem was corrected. Why it is not correcting his problem, is unknown. It is possible that he may have a corrupt install disc. If so, then he's probably stuck with it. I was just pointing out that it would not be a total loss for him..

That brings up an interesting point, Ron. Could it be that he has an SE copy that will not allow burning? Just a theory.

Hi - no I have a genuine copy bought a few weeks ago in a box delivered from Amazon
It's VideoStudio Pro X2 Ultimate - it came in a shrink wrapped box and I've tried it with and without WinDVD9 DVD copy6 and WaveLab which come with X2 Ultimate.
It is also registered online with Corel and I have an enquiry pending with them using my serial number.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled again- just to try again! and now have my serial number and version showing.

I did this by installing and before running X2 running the patches one after another and then running X2 so my serial number shows fine now.
So tried the DirectX update but still shows I have the most up to date DirectX so I still have the NEXT button problem and cannot use the menus.

While looking at what else is on my PC I see Windows7 has Window DVD Burner - a program that does what it says on the tin - so I loaded my saved video file customised a menu and burned the DVD is very little time. It's actually does a neat job for a windows freebie.

Infact I was surprised how quickly it spat the finished disc out - but I am comparing it to My old XP P4 machine running VS10 that seemed to take ages.

So I think I will be giving up on VS X2 as being the all in one package I am used to when I had VS10 - I know there are many ways to end up with a nice DVD but, as someone has pointed out - I paid my money and made my choice based on X2 being able to 'do it all' which for me, sadly it doesn't.

If Corel suggest something that works for me I will post back - otherwise thanks all for those who tried to help me,

I shall return next time I get stuck.

Kind Regards,
Damian.

Are you simply checking the version number, or have you actually tried the manual update as outlined in the Sticky at the top of the forum?
