Unspecified Error 5.0.0 when burning a DVD or creating a vid

Post by cdurand »

Hello all (my first post)
I've been using VS at home now for a few years and I love the program. Where I work they wanted to do some video editing and naturally I recommended VS X2. I was quite upset that after purchasing the software and creating a video that I was unable to actually burn a DVD or even create a video file. The error message I got was "Unspecified Error 5.0.0 when burning a DVD or creating a video file".

When attempting to find a solution to this issue, the knowledge base article on the corel site did not solve the issue but I DID discover what the problem was and thought I'd post it here.

Since we were installing the software on a networked PC using a domain where each PC's "My Documents" folder is actually located on the server (roaming profiles)... this meant that all the "working directories" for Video Studio by default were actually not locally stored. So either there is a glitch in the program and UNC paths aren't permitted or the speed of the network isn't sufficient to process the project (I doubt its the latter since even the simplest of projects wouldn't work).

So if you want to resolve this issue and run the program successfully in this type of environment, simply adjust all working directories to a local path (somewhere on C). There are a few locations where you set this parameter, just check all settings/options before you burn. Its fine to have your project files and any photos/videos on network drives - only the working directories HAVE TO BE local.

Hope this helps someone...

Having same problem

I am having the same problem. Can you be more specific about places where you updated working direcoty setting? I changed in in two places under preferences and under settings in Disc Creation options, but I am still getting this error. I am wondering if I missed something.

ok, here are a few places to look...

1. Under File/Preferences.. under the "General" tab you can see the "working folder" which should point to somewhere on C. I made another folder on the root of C other than under "My Docs..."

2. Under File/Preferences... under the "Preview" tab... make sure that one is local too

3. when you go to "Share" your project and, for example, select "Create Disc"... click the "Settings and Options" button at the bottom left and check the working directory there under "Preferences"

4. on the final screen before you click "Burn"... make sure the "Create DVD folders" and "Create Disc Image" locations are all local paths... even if you're not going to use those options.

If it still doesn't work, here's info from the Corel article with other suggestions that may help (none of which worked for me)

Update Direct X from Microsoft.com
Update your Video Card drivers
There could also be a damaged or corrupted file in the project, Try saving the project as an MPEG file. If the same error message appears when you save the project, close the program and create a copy of your project file. Remove files from the project and try re-saving until you have identified the damaged file (Please note to also check the Audio files in your project). Open the original project file and delete the damaged file.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.
