Problem import Jibjab MPEG1 to edit

Post by LGO »

This is bizarre . . . Been using VS for a decade and never run into this before!

Made some silly videos using Jibjab (http://sendables.jibjab.com/) which you can download into a MPEG-1 file to your PC for permanent storage. Fine.

The MPEG-1 file created is 425x319, VBR, 24 fps, with 44,100 16 bit aud. at 160 kpbps. It plays fine using Windows Media Player.

HOWEVER . . .

When I import into VS to edit and change to a wmv file, the video is black and white and "askew" like the following image . . .

Image

Any ideas about this????? Seems really screwy that the mpeg files plays fine in Windows Media Player, but VS has problems with it!

Many thanks for some guidance on this . . .

When you say "When I import into VS to edit and change to a wmv file" What exacly do you mean. Are you trying to create a wmv via "Share" or have you converted the file in a converter software? Perhaps you are only supposed to keep the original file as is and not edit it. It may have a piracy protection system!

Hi, Mitchell, and thanks for replying.

I only "insert" the mpeg-1 file into the timeline and this phenomena happens. Have not done any editing.

The goal is to trim the start of the file with the advertising (I paid for the download so I don't want to see advertising!) and then create a WMV file using the "Share" feature. Obviously, since the video doesn't look right when inserted, I have not done any editing or saving as a WMV file.

Piracy protection system? Hmmmm, hadn't thought of that, and don't think so. I also have "Brand X Elements" and it loads in that just fine. Problem is, I can't export in that as a WMV file in the same size (425x319) as the original mpeg-1.

Appreciate the reply, and hope you (or someone) has some ideas.

If Adobe Elements works then use it. If you want to convert to wmf try the freebie converter SUPER from here:

I have found out exactly the same problem today, did anyone get an answer for this? Do I need to convert to another format first?

Brendy . . .

Never could get VS to work with this so I had to use Brand X Elements (since I had it). I would suggest you get the conversion software suggested and convert to uncompressed AVI and import that format version of your jibjab file into VS for editing.

Sorry, once I found a work around that works for me, I stopped trying to find a VS solution.

Good luck and let us know what works for you!!!

If anyone would care to upload their file to a server and send me a PM with the details to download I will see if I can replicate the problem.
