X2 won't launch, error; "The security information is in

Post by jdarwin »

I upgraded from VS10 to X2 about a year ago. I've had no problems with X2 until this morning.

I launched X2 and got the following msg. "The security information is invalid or has been modified. This program will terminate." I haven't used X2 in about a month.

VS10 will launch and run fine. X2 gives me the error msg. I've searched this forum and others and can't find a solution. Any ideas? Is this a Vista problem? Thanks for the help.

I have no idea if this will solve your problem but at least you are not alone!

Corel has included with I think now all of it's programs an anti-piracy utility called Protexis Licensing. This must be running or the program will not launch, and you will get that error message.

Right-click on your Computer icon on your desktop, and select Manage. In the Computer Management window, in the left pane, click the arrow beside Services and Applications to expand it, and then select Services. In the right pane it will list all the services on your system. Scroll down to find Protexis Licensing, and make sure it is started. If not click on the link to Start the service or Restart, if it is already running.

It should have by default been set to start automatically. You can set it to Manually, but will have to go through the above routine each time you want to run a Corel program. Just make sure it is not set to Disabled.

Fixed the problem

Thanks Ron. I wound up reinstalling X2. It fixed the problem.

I did find information about protexis at the link below. They claim you don't need it to make X2 run. I was thinking about disabling it. Your thoughts?

The error message relates to anti-piracy measures in force.
With some of the Ulead/Corel programs it relies on Protexis Licensing in which case if you turn off or disable protexis licensing (via Windows Services) then the program(s) concerned will not work.

Other - mostly older programs will generate the same message when a secret file on your computer has either been deliberately tampered with, or (as we have all suffered at some time or another) the file has become corrupted. When this happens you might be lucky using Windows "System Restore" if not then it normally entails re-installing the operating system.

If you have Protexis on your system, you must have some other software that relies on it. I know CorelDraw, PaintShop Pro Photo, Painter all must have Protexis running. I would not disable it. You might elect to change the start up from Automatic to Manual. If so just remember the next time when you launch a program that relies on it, that you will have to manually start/restart Protexis first.

Thanks for the input. I'm leaving it set to automatic. sjj1805 said something that makes me think my AVS might have deleted or corrupted the protexis. I had just run Superanti spyware. It found some items and I deleted them off without really looking at them. I think if I had just done a restore to a previous day it would have solved the problem. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's input and help. :D
