I have been working with VS8. On advice, I've downloaded a trial version of VS12 X2. I dropped my VS8 file into VS12 successfully. However, when I checked, I found any images where I had zoomed in, the quality was awful! Particularly, there was a photo of a map where I zoomed in to a name on the map. In VS8 it's quite sharp & readable. In VS12 it's an illegible blur! I found some entries in the forum that seemed to say you can't zoom in on stills in VS12!! Why have the zoom facility then?
So I decided to render my project in VS8 (I had saved a VS8 copy) tho' it looked like it would take about 4 hours. It got to 25% - & crashed. I tried again this morning & though it starts rendering, the first pictures with sky in them have awful bands across the sky.
Even worse, this morning, when I click even once on any .mpg file in Windows Explorer, a message pops up saying "Data Execution Prevention" then closes Explorer! I'll do a full virus scan shortly - is that what the problem is? I can play mpeg files, provided I start them before I click the Close Message on the warning window.
My project is now using the original Canon .MOV files (640x480 30fps) & Canon jpeg stills. Assuming I get back on track, should I be rendering my projects into "As project settings" or PAL DVD or something else?
& a Happy Xmas to you all too!

VS and Mov files
Hi John
Need a bit more info regarding the image size and type.
Can you e-mail the map image, I¡¦ll give it a looking at.
Working with Mov files
There are so many types using different compressions that it is difficult for VS to cope with all.
You certainly need a faster pc, even then you may have problems.
Can you give details, the properties of the video file.
Right click a file in the timeline or library and select properties, what are they? The compression type is probably Motion-Jpeg?
Have you ever managed to successfully render the Mov files using VS 8. (glad you saved a copy of the VSP)
It will take a long time, especially with a relatively slow pc as yours.
It may be best to convert your Mov files to a more managable format, then use VS to edit.
There is a Free program called Super that many forum members use.

As to which template you use to render the video project depends on what you intend to make, A DVD or a clip for the internet?
As to Windows Explorer, I don¡¦t understand, but cannot think it has anything to do with Video Studio.
