Hi,
I have an short clip in AVI File format (Divx 29 sec and 1920 x 1080 resolution) in which Gspot does not find the audio codec (nor any other program for that matter). The file plays good with any player but of course no sound (no codec). My problem with that file is that I would like to edit the clip to do whatever with it but VideoStudio 12 crashes when I try to read it or import it. So does MovieFactory 5 and 6
Tried converting the file in various other formats with various converters but to no avail the converted file crashes also.
Some converters crash when reading the file, others read it but the converted file has no codec also thus crashes with VS X2 etc
Tried different repair programs for AVI files but no.
Even tried to copy the file on a USB stick to read it with my new HD TV by Samsung but the TV says unknown codec and does not read it.
Any other idea out there that I could try. I maybe missing the obvious here.
It is a puzzler to me right now. Maybe not for you.
By the way, the file is not important to me just wondering how to solve the problem if it happens again.
Nearly forgot to specify that I am using Windows 7 64bits with Vs 12 and the latest patches.
Thank you in advance.
Pierre

Can we assume you have the latest version of the DivX codec installed? And does the DivX website say anything about compatibility with Windows 7?
Even if you do have it, however, there seems to be a quirk that X2's own installed DivX codec is an older one (6.5.8 if I recall correctly -- I am away from home for Christmasd and don't have X2 on this computer I am using...) It could be that with their later high def output the DivX people may have changed the usual audio codec. (I have the latest DivX codec but X2 cannot see it. There is a separate thread on this...)
The fact that you can't play it directly via USB on your HDTV, however, is a bit of a puzzler -- though it could be a coincidence. My Sony PlayStation 3 -- an excellent Blu-Ray rated player -- will only play DivX properly when it has activated a particular internal code which has to be done manually. (That may have been as part of an update of PS3 firmware but I don't recall clearly...) Something similar might be required for your own USB connection to your HDTV... but you'd need to consult manuals or do a Google search for that information...

Hi again,
By the way you guys are fantastic. Taking the time to answer me. WOW.
Yes Ken I have the latest version of the divx codec. Since I last logged in I tried playing other Divx files on my USB stick with my TV and they all work.
I also upgraded the firmware of my TV still the file does not play.
Thanks again for trying to help me. I will do as skier-hughes suggest and get on with something more important. But it still puzzles me.
Merry Christmas to all
Pierre

Then I would tend to agree with Graham - you have a corrupt file.Yes Ken I have the latest version of the divx codec. Since I last logged in I tried playing other Divx files on my USB stick with my TV and they all work.
