Does activation code unlock blu-ray capability?

Post by Esotropic »

First some background. I downloaded WinDVD 9 plus blu-ray a while back, and then bought the license to activate it. I only recently got a blu-ray drive, and have discovered that I can't play blu-rays. I downloaded and saved an installation file that will install a trial version of WinDVD 9 plus. I am thinking about re-installing to try to get it to work. What I am trying to find out is if the "plus" and "plus blu-ray" versions can be installed from the same file, i.e. does the correct activation key just unlock the blu-ray functions? Or are the two versions installed from a different file? Unfortunately the only way for me to test this is to uninstall my current version and try, but since Corel no longer provides the installation file for v9, I won't get a chance to fix it if it doesn't work. If anybody knows the answer, that would be great. I've asked Corel tech support this question several times and they keep dodging it.

yes the activation code is supposed to unlock blu-ray capability which is disabled in the trial version.

Thanks. So are the "plus" and "plus blu-ray" versions essentially the same software, but with blu-ray unlocked by the appropriate activation code? Or does separate software need to be installed to get blu-ray capability? I have an activation code for blu ray, but I want to be sure I have access to the right software too.

WinDVD 9 came out in different "Flavours" - Still available on the Mexican site!" http://tinyurl.com/yao9cqx

WinDVD 9 Plus.
WinDVD 9 Plus Blue Ray.

The serial number for one will NOT work with the other.

Thanks for the information. So probably re-installing at this time would not be a good idea because I'm pretty sure the installation file I downloaded is for the wrong "flavor".

I checked the link, and while it has the option to buy, it doesn't seem to have a trial to download, although my Spanish is pretty rusty - maybe I missed it. Since I already bought WinDVD 9 and it isn't working for blu-ray I don't think I'll buy it again. I'll either see if I can find a different source for the installation file, or maybe tech support can help me get my current installation working.
